American Express have done a great job with their lounge at Heathrow Terminal 3. It’s a mid sized lounge that does everything right.
The buffet was fantastic, with fresh and tasty food. There’s a manned bar, serving cocktails. Expertly prepared by mixologists. The lounge decoration is lovely too. Best of all, it wasn’t too busy!
My only critique is that there’s no natural light. However, space at Heathrow isn’t easy to come by. So I don’t blame American Express for that!
It’s a nice and relaxed place to chill before your flight. Two hours is perfect. More time is good too!
This review is an in depth guide to the AMEX Lounge Heathrow. I took lots of photos. Each photo can be clicked. To open out the full slideshow.

American Express Centurion lounges can be accessed with the right credit card. Given that the Centurion Lounges are operated by American Express. The right credit card needs to be an American Express Card.
An Amex Platinum Personal or Business card will get you in.
You can also get in with an AMEX Centurion card. This card is invite only and extremely premium. If you’re hearing about this card for the 1st time, then you’re probably not eligible!
I wrote a complete guide to American Express Centurion Lounges. Which explains the locations, all the ways to get access and what you can expect when you visit.
I got access as I have an AMEX Business Platinum Card. My card was issued in the UK, so I can get my family of four in. For no extra cost. My wife has a free supplementary card. Each card provides access for two people.
If your AMEX Platinum is issued in the US, you can’t bring in guests for free. There’s a charge. You need to pay $50 per person, for each guest you bring in.
If you have an AMEX Platinum card, then you can also access other lounges in Heathrow Terminal 3. This is because the card comes with a Priority Pass Membership. With Priority Pass, you can access the No. 1 Lounge and the Club Aspire.
You can also buy a Priority Pass membership from Priority Pass Directly. This webpage provides a 30% discount to a Priority Pass Membership.
What’s better value? Priority Pass through American Express or by buying direct? It depends! My AMEX Platinum Business Card has an annual fee of £650 and provides access for four people. Buying direct from Priority Pass costs £183 for a standard plus membership. But that only provides access for one person.
The AMEX Lounge Heathrow is in Terminal 3. The AMEX Lounge isn’t near any other lounges. It is in Lounge Zone A.
Once you get past security, you walk through the duty free shopping area. Then you’re in the main section of the terminal building. With shops and restaurants.
Walk to the other side of the eating and shopping area. You’ll see entry to the AMEX Platinum lounge on the left. Take the lift up, and you’ll be there. As easy as that!
The AMEX Lounge Heathrow is small to mid sized. It’s 650 square metres (7,000 square foot). It’s basically three rooms.
In terms of the seating, there’s lots of low, lounge style seating. There’s also restaurant style tables and chairs. And some high tables with stools.
The lounge decoration is really classy. AMEX have knocked it out the park with this lounge! There’s lots of exposed wood and grey tones. A very relaxed and upscale environment.
The lounge wasn’t busy at all. It was Friday evening on a bank holiday weekend. I expected the lounge to be at capacity and not be allowed in. I was pleasantly surprised at the situation!
The Food was excellent. There’s a self service buffet. Located in the main room, against one of the walls. It was terrific. The food was fresh and very high quality. The food had been cooked by chefs. Not reheated in an oven, as often happens in airport lounges.
The following dishes were available:
I had vegetarian curry, salad, rice, cabbage and mint soup. The mint soup was warming and refreshing at the same time. I was fed like a king and enjoyed my meal!
My wife enjoyed her meal too and went back for seconds!
There was a large bar in the main room. It had a stunning design. There was a full range of beers, wines, spirits and cocktails.
The quality of the selection was excellent. Everything was premium. They served Grey Goose, which is a high quality vodka.
The drinks menu is below.
The AMEX Lounge Heathrow has everything you want in a lounge. The food was nothing short of excellent. The drinks were super premium. The cocktail menu was lovely. The decorations were gorgeous.
My only negative, was that there are no windows to the outside. So no natural light. But that is a minor issue in my view.
I reviewed the Plaza Premium Lounge in Heathrow Terminal Four. It was really good. A large space, with lots of natural light. They had cook to order hot food and a separate bar area. You can access the lounge with a Priority Pass Card.
