Crowne Plaza Madrid Airport: €107 Family Room

The Cowne Plaza Madrid Airport is a convenient option if you need an airport hotel. There is a shuttle that goes to the airport every 30 minutes.

Best of all? I got a great price. I paid €107 for my family to stay for one night. That’s a pretty tidy price.

Is it luxury? Not at all! The hotel decor is functional at best. It’s also next to to a highway. For an airport hotel like the Crowne Plaza Madrid Airport, this suited me just fine!

I arrived at Madrid airport at 1:40am after a flight delay from London. The Crowne Plaza Madrid Airport shuttle had stopped for the night—12:30am is the cutoff. I grabbed a taxi instead: €28 to the hotel. Worth knowing if you're arriving late.

What the Crowne Plaza Madrid Airport actually nails for families is space. The family room came with two proper double beds and enough room to move around—which matters when you're four deep with luggage.

The décor is modern: shiny wooden floors, nice pieces, nothing pretentious. The room felt significantly bigger than a standard double.

My IHG Platinum status got acknowledged at check-in, and I was offered either 600 points or two free drinks. I took the points, though the drinks might have been the smarter move if I'd planned to stick around. The Intercontinental Madrid by IHG offers the same Platinum benefits at a luxury tier if you're willing to trade airport convenience for the city experience.

If you're planning a late arrival, book your transfer before you land. My Recommended Resources page has Welcome Picks for airport transfers, along with the other travel deals I actually use.

What I Liked

  • Close to Madrid airport
  • Shuttle to the airport
  • Well priced room

What Could Be Improved

  • Property is not luxury

The Location

The Crowne Plaza Madrid Airport is 10km from Madrid airport. However, the road is all highway. The drive takes about 12 minutes.

There is a shuttle bus that runs from the airport to the hotel. It’s not free however. The cost is €2.50 per person.

It runs from 6am to 12.30am. Each terminal has a hotel shuttle bus stop. You can get the bus from there.

My flight from London arrived 1 hour late. So I actually got to the bus stop at 12.40am. I called the hotel and was out of luck. There were no more buses that night.

I had to get a taxi. It cost me €28. But fortunately, i didn’t need to wait. Taxis in Madrid are expensive with a minimum fare of €20.

The highway location defines the experience. You get speed—quick in, quick out from the airport—but no neighbourhood to explore. There's nowhere to wander, no cafés within walking distance. The dated exterior fits the purpose: this hotel prioritizes function over aesthetics. For an airport stopover at the Crowne Plaza Madrid Airport, that's exactly the right trade-off.

Puerta del Sol is Madrid's most famous square. It's where the city actually happens—the iconic clock, the statue of the bear and strawberry tree, tapas bars everywhere. Walk north along Gran Vía and you've got Madrid's most elegant avenue. It's all free.

The Booking

€107 for the night. For a family room that sleeps four, that's a genuinely good deal.

You get modern rooms and space—two proper double beds, room to move around with luggage, shiny wooden floors. For an airport stopover, it delivers.

The catch? It's next to a highway, the exterior is dated, the beds are small. But for a quick sleep before your connection, these aren't deal-breakers.

The Crowne Plaza Madrid Airport shuttle runs 6am to 12:30am. Miss it and you're looking at a taxi—mine was €28 from the airport. Worth planning for if you're arriving late.

The Hotel

I booked 1 night in a family room at the Crowne Plaza Madrid Airport. My flight was arriving late from London. I wanted somewhere close to the airport, that wasn’t too expensive.

The Crowne Plaza fit the bill—close, modern, and at €107 for a family room, a genuine bargain.

The hotel is right next to the highway. It’s located over 3 floors. There is no swimming pool.

The outside of the hotel is definitely dated. But inside, it felt fresher—updated furnishings and contemporary finishes.

The Crowne Plaza Madrid Airport had a small lobby on the ground floor. café on the ground floor, restaurant on the first floor.

I didn’t explore the hotel at all. I arrived at the hotel at 1.30am. I checked out at 11am.

I have platinum ambassador status with IHG. This was acknowledged during check-in at the Crowne Plaza Madrid Airport. I was given the choice of 600 IHG points or two free drinks. I chose the points, even though the drinks were more valuable. I didn’t plan on staying around in the morning, so I wouldn’t have been able to get a drink.

I didn’t get breakfast at the hotel either. It wasn’t included in the room rate. I didn’t fancy splashing out €50, for my family to get breakfast. Far better for me to get something in the centre of Madrid.

The Crowne Plaza is IHG's mid-market brand, and this Madrid property follows the familiar formula: modern rooms, functional design, budget positioning. For comparison, the Intercontinental Madrid by IHG sits at the luxury tier of the same family. You're not paying for luxury here—you're paying for a reliable base near the airport.

The Room

I booked a family room at the Crowne Plaza Madrid Airport for my family of four. I was given room 209. Given that the hotel only had two floors, I was put on the highest floor. I may have been upgraded due to my IHG Platinum Status.

The room consisted of the following features:

  • Two small double beds
  • Small TV
  • Desk
  • Small table and chair
  • Bathroom with bathtub and separate bath
  • Tea, instant coffee and water

The room itself was a good size. The family room was definitely bigger than a normal double room. The extra space was welcome, for my family of four.

I've squeezed my family into plenty of tight rooms! It’d nice to have the extra space, as it means we’re not falling over our luggage.

The Crowne Plaza Madrid Airport room had modern décor. It had shiny wooden floors and some nice pieces of furniture.

The beds were definitely on the small side. A standard double, rather than a king bed. Given that my kids are small, it wasn’t a problem for us. We managed for one night!

The view from the room was not great. You could just see another building on the other side of the road.

The room was just about perfect for my family. Spending €107 for an airport hotel is a genuine bargain. The room had everything we needed.

Conclusion

I'd recommend the Crowne Plaza Madrid Airport to anyone needing a budget base near the airport—but only if you know what you're getting. At €107 for a family room with two double beds and modern design, the value is genuinely excellent for an airport hotel. The space matters when you're four deep with luggage. But this is absolutely not a destination stay. The highway location means zero walkability, the exterior is dated, and the beds are on the small side.

The real question is whether you can reach the hotel during shuttle hours (6am to 12:30am). My late arrival from London meant a €28 taxi instead of the €2.50 shuttle. If you can time your arrival or pre-book a transfer, the Crowne Plaza Madrid Airport is solid value. If you're landing at midnight with no backup plan, you might regret it.

The Crowne Plaza Madrid Airport knows exactly what it is: a functional airport stopover. For families stopping over before an onward journey, it's the right choice at the right price.
