The Holiday Inn Wolverhampton Racecourse was perfect for my 2 night stay. I was visiting the West Midlands Safari, for a short weekend break from London. I didn’t want to spend a lot of money, as I had a number of bucket list trips coming up. Two nights with breakfast came to £172, with is less then I would spend on a night out in London. If you need a comfortable place to stay in the Wolverhampton area, then I definitely recommend the Holiday Inn.
The Holiday Inn Wolverhampton Racecourse sits right next to the town's racecourse, about a mile from Wolverhampton city centre. It's a bed factory spread across three floors—functional, not fancy, but it delivers exactly what you need. The real surprise was the breakfast menu — genuinely excellent cook-to-order options including pancakes, porridge, eggs cooked just how you like them.
The rooms are small. Tight, honestly. Checking in with my wife, our infant son, and a buggy meant everything felt cramped. But what impressed me was the value proposition: At the time of booking, the family room was priced the same as the king room. If you're planning a longer stay, you might want something more spacious — but for a quick UK trip, this is exactly what you need.

The Holiday Inn Wolverhampton Racecourse sits about a mile from Wolverhampton city centre. Roughly 20 miles from Birmingham. So you're in the wider Wolverhampton area, not slap in the middle of town.
The neighbourhood is quiet and suburban. You're right next to Dunstall Park Racecourse, which tells you something about the vibe — local, working-class, not touristy. If you're visiting regional attractions (I was there for the West Midlands Safari), the location works perfectly. The Holiday Inn Wolverhampton Racecourse is about a mile from Wolverhampton city centre—so if you want the main attractions, it's a short trip into town.
Free parking is included, which is a genuine win when you're outside town and not wrestling with paid car parks. The trade-off of being a mile out is that you get space, quiet, and easier logistics. For a quick, no-fuss base — especially if you're visiting something nearby — that's exactly what you want.
The Holiday Inn Wolverhampton Racecourse is pretty much a bed factory, located over three floors. It’s located next to a local horse racecourse. It’s a mile away from the centre of Wolverhampton and around 20 miles from Birmingham. There’s a small restaurant and bar on the ground floor. This is where they serve breakfast – which was surprisingly good! There’s also a small gym on site. As an IHG Platinum, I was rewarded with a drinks voucher for two people. This is basically the minimum of what is expected as an IHG Platinum. I didn’t get a room upgrade, as the hotel was busy.
I've stayed at Holiday Inns across the UK multiple times. They're reliable, consistent, and you know exactly what you're getting—which is why I keep coming back for quick overnight trips.
The room was what I’ve come to expect from a 4* chain hotel in the UK. My room was on the 2nd floor, out of three. I didn’t get an upgrade as an IHG Platinum.

While I found the room to be perfectly acceptable, I also thought it was small and tired. I was staying with my wife and my infant son. With the buggy in the room, it definitely felt cramped. It wasn’t a problem as we only stayed for two nights and didn’t spend much time in the room.
If you have a long trip planned with the family, then you might want to consider a hotel with larger rooms.
I was really impressed with the breakfast. It’s amongst the best breakfasts I’ve had at a 4* hotel in the UK. On par with the Met hotel in Leeds. They had a full Breakfast Spread and some excellent cook-to-order options.

I had breakfast there for two days and tried a few of the dishes. I had the porridge on both days, and it was excellent. I tried the pancakes, and they were ok. They were pretty small, nothing like the thick stack at the Intercontinental Boston! I tried the vegetarian sausages, which were very good.
I had English Breakfast tea both days with breakfast. It wasn’t strong enough.
The breakfast menu at the Holiday Inn Wolverhampton Racecourse caught me off guard in the best way. Cook-to-order pancakes, porridge, eggs, and veggie sausages. A full English Breakfast spread. Cereals, cold cuts, fruit. For a mid-range hotel, it's a properly stocked breakfast that doesn't just throw a packet of cornflakes at you and call it done.
I was really happy with my stay at the Holiday Inn Wolverhampton Racecourse. I’ve become accustomed about what to expect at a 4* city hotel in the UK. The hotel smashed my expectations in two areas – the price and the quality of the breakfast.
I know what I'm trading when I book a hotel at this price point: space and design for money in my pocket. The Holiday Inn Wolverhampton Racecourse makes that deal crystal clear. Small, tired rooms. But free parking, IHG loyalty points that count toward bucket-list stays, and breakfast that genuinely impresses. As a one or two-night base while visiting nearby attractions, the Holiday Inn Wolverhampton Racecourse delivers. For a longer stay, you'd want something more spacious.
