London has a very haunted history. Over the last 2,000 years, lots of messed up stuff has happened here. From medieval plagues and serial killers to headless prisoners at the Tower of London. There’s loads to scare the crap out of you.

I’m a native Londoner and love the history. In this guide, I review my 9 favourite London Haunted Tours.

I include commercial attractions like the Tower of London and the London Dungeon. I also show how you can get a London Dungeon combo ticket, that includes other attractions.

I provide details of some other tours, off the beaten track. Like the tour of Aldwych Tube Station. Which is abandoned and rumoured to be haunted. It’s my personal favourite tour.

The tours are all super affordable too.

The London Dungeon – The OG

I first visited the London Dungeon when I was at primary school. It was brilliant then and it’s brilliant now. It’s a famous attraction that delves into London’s dark past. The attraction has 1 million visitors per year.

It’s a theatrical experience. A series of live shows that re-create grim historical events. The events include Jack The Ripper, The Great Fire of London, The Black Death, Sweeney Todd, Guy Fawkes and more.

They have two rides too. The dark ride is a slow moving boat style ride. The drop ride includes a vertical drop at the end.

When it comes to London Haunted Tours, The London Dungeon is the OG. It’s commercial as hell, but super fun too. It’s also next to Borough Market. Which is famous for it’s food.

Book your ticket to the London Dungeon here. The cost is £27.

Book a Combo Ticket

An Alternative is to book a combo ticket. Madame Tussauds, London Eye & London Dungeon, for £64. These are some of the most famous attractions in London.

If you buy each ticket separately, then it costs £120 in total. If you plan on visiting two of the above attractions, then a combo ticket will be worth it. Visit the 3rd attraction for free.

The Tower of London - The GOAT

The Tower of London is a UNESCO world heritage site. It’s a must see on any visit to London. When you’re there, there’s many amazing things to see. The crown jewels, The Beefeaters, Royal Armouries and much more.

The Tower of London is the #1 paid attraction in England. With 2.9 million visitors annually.

Buy your ticket to the Tower of London for £36.

Is the Tower a London Haunted Tour?

The Tower is super haunted! Over 1,000 years, it’s been a Royal Palace, Execution Site and Place of Torture. People think that headless ghosts still roam around it.

From the 11th century, the Tower was used to imprison traitors, nobles and royal family members. Anne Boleyn was the 2nd wife of King Henry VIII. She was executed on the Tower Green in 1536. It’s been reported (by who?!) that her ghost roams the tower and carries her head in her arm.

Below are 9 people believed to haunt the Tower Of London

  • Guy Fawkes. Who tried to blow up the Houses of Parliament
  • Anne Boleyn. 2nd wife of King Henry VIII
  • Henry VI
  • Sir Walter Raleigh. Sent to the Tower 3 times, and finally beheaded there
  • The Faceless young woman. Reported in 1957
  • Margaret Pole. Her execution in 1541 was botched, as the executioner hacked at Margaret Cole’s head and shoulders. Bloody hell!
  • The white figure. Reported in 1864
  • Lady Jane Grey. Who was Queen for just 9 days
  • Arbella Stuart. Cousin of Elizabeth 1

Jack The Ripper Tours – Scary as hell

If you’re serious about London Haunted Tours, then this is another must see.

Jack The Ripper was a serial killer who murdered several women in the Whitechapel area (East London) in 1888.

The killer was unidentified and never caught. At the time, the area was very poor. With overcrowding and crime. These days, the area is in the shadow of the City Of London and it’s shining skyscrapers. One of the largest financial centres in the world.

Jack The Ripper murdered at least five women. Most were living in poverty and were sex workers.

The murders were horrific

The murders were gruesome. Except one victim, they were all strangled, had their throats cut, and were mutilated after they were killed.

The story of Jack The Ripper is famous. Mostly because the killer was never caught. There have been endless theories over the years.

Book a two hour tour here - it costs £18 and has 4.7* rating from over 3,000 reviews. The tour is in a small group, with an expert guide. You’ll walk the very streets where the victims met their fate. The reviews are very positive about how the tour guides have excellent knowledge.

Abandoned Tube Stations – My favourite Tour

This tour is probably my favourite. The amazing photo above is of Aldwych Tube Station during World War 2. As Londoners sheltered from Hitler’s bombs during the Blitz.

At the time, Hitler’s army had taken over Europe. The USA had not entered the war. Britain was fighting alone against the Nazi machine.

There are around 40 abandoned tube stations in London. Closed for various reasons. Such as low passenger numbers or rerouting of lines.

One of these stations is Aldwych tube station in Westminster. The most famous abandoned tube station. Many movies have been filmed here, like Luther: The Fallen Sun.

The station also has a reputation for paranormal activity. There’s been stories of a woman in 1920s dress. Gliding through empty carriages and disembodied voices. Yikes!

Book a tour of the Aldwych Tube here for £45. A top rated tour at 4.7*.

The tour lasts for 75 minutes. You’ll see the original ticket hall. You’ll also hear from Second World War shelterers.

I loved the tour. There was an eerie silence to be that far below London, in an empty tube station.

Comedy Horror Ghost Tour on a Bus

You’ll take a Ghost Bus at night time around London.

You’ll enjoy a comedy horror sightseeing show narrated by the creepy conductor. There are on-board actors, with full make up and ghostly appearance. As you travel round London, you’ll learn about London’s creepier side.

The tour lasts for one hour and you’ll visit Trafalgar Square, the West End and the City of London Financial District.

The Black Death

The black death was an outbreak of the bubonic plague. It struck England in the 1300’s. The disease was spread by rats and other rodents.

The plague was devastating to England and especially London. About 50% of England’s population died. 2 million people.

In London, the effect was even worse. 80% of the population died.

Book a 2 hour walking you’re here for £20. Rated a perfect 5* from over 250 reviews.

The Great Fire of London

The Great Fire of London took place in 1666. A catastrophic event that started on Pudding Lane in the City of London. 80,000 people were made homeless. £10 million of damage was done – an astronomical amount in 1666!
