AC Hotel Manchester Review. Good for Centre and Northern Quarter

I had a short stay at the AC Hotel Manchester. I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel is modern and well located for the city centre. Close to the Northern Quarter.

Best of all, it’s a great value hotel. I only paid £54 for one night. A great option for a cheap Manchester hotel.

I’ve stayed in many 4* hotels in UK city centres. This was definitely one of the better ones. I would definitely recommend to stay here.

This is an in-depth review with lots of photos. All of the photos can be clicked, and pop out into a slideshow.

The Booking

Looking for a Cheap Manchester hotel?

I only paid £54 for my 1 night stay. This rate included breakfast. This was a great deal for a hotel in the centre of Manchester. These days, a decent breakfast will cost you £20 alone.

The Location

The AC Hotel is located in the centre of Manchester.

It’s also an excellent choice for a Manchester hotel in the Northern Quarter. The Northern Quarter is a 5 minute walk away.

Manchester is a compact city. You can cross the city centre in 30 minutes.

Manchester Piccadilly Station is 10 minutes walk from the hotel. The biggest train station in Manchester.

Manchester Airport is 10 miles away. 30 minutes by taxi. The journey will cost around £20 in an Uber.

The hotel is 2.5 miles from Old Trafford. The home of Manchester United. You are 1.5 miles away from the Etihad Stadium. Home of Manchester City.

The Hotel

This was the 1st time I’ve stayed at an AC branded hotel. The brand originated in Spain, before being acquired by Marriott.

The hotel is smart and modern. With a great city centre location. There’s a small gym for the guests to use. There’s also a restaurant and bar on the ground floor.

That’s about it in terms of facilities. Which is fine for a city centre hotel. The main selling point is the location of the hotel. Right in the city centre.

The decoration of the hotel is modern. All of the furniture and decorations were in good condition. No pets are allowed.

One disappointment I had was with the lack of late night food. I arrived at midnight. After a 4 hour drive from London. I was told there was no food available. The only option was to order food from Just Eat or Uber Eats. I would have appreciated the convenience of room service.

Overall, the hotel offers a lot for £54/night. A great choice for a cheap Manchester hotel.

The Room

The hotel really shined with the quality of the rooms. I stayed in room 714 on the 7th floor. I was impressed. The room had the following features

  • Corner room with modern décor
  • In room Nespresso Machine
  • Small bathroom with shower
  • Small table
  • Wall hung TV

A few things impressed me about the room. I really liked the décor. Sleek and modern.

There was a modern TV on the wall. And a small table to eat on.

The room was at the corner, and had windows on two sides. This created a feeling of openness in the room. The view would have been really nice. Except for the building site in front of the hotel!

I was also impressed by the in-room Nespresso Machine. I don’t drink coffee myself. However, I think an in-room coffee machine is a good way to judge a hotel.

I think coffee machines should be standard at 5* hotels. And ‘nice to have’ at 4* hotels. So in that respect, the hotel outperformed.

The bathroom was small, with a shower instead of a bath.

Overall, I liked the room. Impressive décor with good facilities.

The Breakfast

Breakfast was included in my room rate. They had a small buffet with the following items:

  • Scrambled egg
  • Bacon
  • Sausages (meat and veg)
  • Hash potatoes
  • Toast
  • Cereals
  • Pastries in a packet
  • Porridge in a packet
  • Apples and oranges
  • Yoghurt

It was basically standard English breakfast items.

My breakfast consisted of veggie sausages, mushrooms, toast and hash potatoes. The mushrooms were undercooked and flavourless. The sausages tasted utterly awful. Which is very common with veggie sausages.

The meat items definitely looked better. The bacon smelled great. The sausages were Lincolnshire sausages.

Conclusion

The AC Hotel is a smart hotel in the centre of Manchester. I liked it. The hotel location is fabulous. Right in the centre and close to the Northern Quarter. They also offer rooms for a great price.

I stayed at the Radisson Blu Liverpool. Review here. It’s a smart and modern, city centre hotel. With a swimming pool and excellent water view.

I’ve flown in Etihad First Class on the A380. Review here. It’s amazing! You have a private apartment with separate bed and armchair. The food was excellent, the crew were friendly and there’s a shower on the plane. Nothing will be the same again!!
