W Ibiza Review: Tiny Room, Big Pool Vibes

The W Ibiza is one of the few chain hotels in Ibiza. It’s a small hotel in a secluded location.

You’re right on the beach. The pool area is pretty nice. There’s also a sauna spa to keep you occupied.

If you're looking to hit the clubs at night, but chill out in the day. Then the W could be a great option.

I checked into the W Ibiza for a friend's birthday, and the first thing I clocked was the bill. $700 for two nights. This is not the place you search when you want cheap hotels in Ibiza.

It's also a 20km haul from the airport, and the taxi set me back €45 each way. Worth knowing before you land. But once you're there, the pool area has a DJ spinning chilled house, the steam room is hotter than anything I've sat in for years, and the breakfast at Fire is genuinely good.

A word of honest warning. The rooms are tiny. Mine was the smallest I've stayed in for a long time, facing the building next door rather than the sea. I'm a Marriott Platinum and still didn't get an upgrade, for reasons I'll get into below.

If that €45 airport run put you off, sort your transfers before you go. I use Welcome Picks for a 5-star rated taxi service for exactly this kind of out-of-the-way hotel, so you're not haggling with a meter after a long flight.

What I Liked

  • One of the few chain hotels in Ibiza
  • Beach from hotel
  • Good breakfast
  • Outdoor pool with dj
  • Sauna and steam room

What Could Be Improved

  • Room was small
  • Hotel is expensive

The Booking

I didn’t book the hotel myself on this occasion. I was visiting Ibiza for a friends birthday. As such, he booked the room.

The front desk didn’t have my Bonvoy number at the time of booking. As such I didn’t get an upgrade. I’m a Marriott Platinum and would normally get an upgrade.

I gave them my Bonvoy number at check in. So I did get the points. However, it was too late for an upgrade. My room had already been assigned.

I paid $700 for 2 nights. That is pretty pricy in my view. The W Ibiza is a hotel and not a resort. You can’t spend all the time at the hotel.

However, Ibiza is an expensive place — and W Ibiza is priced accordingly. It’s getting more expensive every year. I first came to Ibiza 15 years ago. It’s probably 3x more expensive now.

Ibiza is not cheap. And the W Ibiza is not pretending otherwise.

I paid $700 for two nights. For a beachfront hotel like W Ibiza — with this design, this pool, and that breakfast — it's the going rate in Ibiza.

The Location

The W Ibiza sits in Santa Eulària des Riu — the quieter, eastern side of the island — about 20km from the airport. Santa Eulària itself is a 10-minute walk: marina, promenade, restaurants and shops. Families. Long lunches. Boats bobbing about. More civilised than the San Antonio madness on the west coast, and a quieter choice than hotels in Ibiza Town to the south. The clubs are a 30-minute taxi ride, and Dalt Vila — Ibiza's UNESCO-listed walled citadel — is about 16km away, 22 minutes by car or 37 by bus. Nothing is right on the doorstep, and W Ibiza is completely upfront about that. The seclusion is the point.

Worth knowing before you plan the journey: there is no train or metro anywhere on Ibiza. Not a single one. The whole island runs on taxis and buses. Don't land expecting to tap an Oyster card.

The smoothest way in from the airport is a pre-booked transfer. I use Welcome Pickups — fixed price agreed upfront, driver at arrivals, none of the faff of hunting for a cab with bags in hand. The taxi ran me €45, which stings a little. But door-to-door, fixed price, someone actually there when you land — hard to argue with.

If you're travelling as a group and want to shop around on rates, GetTransfer lets you compare before committing, which makes the cost considerably easier to split.

The budget option is the L24 bus. In summer it runs direct from the airport to Santa Eulària, takes about 25 minutes, and costs €4. Genuinely €4. The obvious trade is that you're hauling luggage onto a bus — and it only runs in summer — but if you're travelling light, it works a treat.

For families, the east coast is consistently the right call. As ibiza hotels for families go, this area ticks the boxes — calm water, walkable beach, restaurants that don't turn into a nightclub at midnight. W Ibiza is a lifestyle hotel, not a dedicated kids' resort. But the location does most of the heavy lifting.

Hire a Car in Santa Eulària des Riu

Hiring a car in Santa Eulària des Riu is worth it. Collect from Ibiza Airport or from a pickup point in town. Prices start from around €30 per day.

I use Local Rent to compare prices. They pull in local Ibiza operators alongside the big international names. Better value than booking direct.

Pros: freedom to reach the quieter northern beaches, explore the island at your own pace, and skip the overpriced taxis. Cons: parking near the popular spots in peak summer is a genuine nightmare. Plan ahead or prepare to walk further than you expected.

Obviously if you're in Ibiza for the clubs, a car hire may not be what you need!

Best Activities in Ibiza

Dalt Vila – Ibiza's Old Town

Ibiza's walled old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and completely free to explore. Cobbled streets wind up to the ramparts, and the views over the harbour and sea are genuinely spectacular. It's about 16km from the W, so you'll need a taxi. But this is the kind of place you'd kick yourself for missing. Go in the evening. The light is something else.

Ibiza Beach Hopping Cruise with Paddleboards, Drinks and Food

Book your spot here for this six-hour cruise at $81 a head. Rated 4.88* from 5,854 reviews — one of the most-reviewed experiences on the island. You get paddleboards, food, and drinks included, and you'll reach coves you'd never find on your own. Six hours in the Ibiza sun is a proper commitment. Bring real sun cream.

Ibiza Pool Party and Club Tour including O Beach and Eden Club

Book here for $69 and you're into O Beach and Eden Club in one go. Rated 4.99* from 235 reviews — the highest-rated pick on this list by some margin. If you're staying at the W for the pool-in-the-day, clubs-at-night lifestyle, this is the natural next step. Worth noting that 235 reviews is a smaller sample than the others, so take that near-perfect score with a small pinch of salt.

Ibiza Boat Party – 3 Hour All Inclusive Drinks, DJ & Swim Stop

The premium pick. Book your place here for $117. Rated 4.6* from 1,490 reviews. Three hours on the water with a DJ, all-inclusive drinks, and a swim stop in open sea. It's the most Ibiza thing money can buy. More expensive than the other options — but nobody came to Ibiza to be sensible.

The Hotel

The W is pretty small and unassuming from the outside. It’s located over 5 floors. It has the following facilities:

  • Outdoor pool
  • Beach front location
  • Spa
  • Sauna and steam room
  • Funky design

The W Ibiza has a pretty cool design. There’s stylish sofas and furniture. The hotel made a lot of effort for decoration.

The W Ibiza is next to the beach. The beach isn’t private. All beaches in Spain are public. You need to go through a gate to get to the beach.

The W Ibiza has an indoor spa on the ground floor. It’s pretty small. There’s a steam and a sauna. No indoor pool.

I had a chance to use the steam room. It was very hot. Much hotter than most steam rooms.

W Ibiza opened here in the summer of 2021, making it a relative newcomer by Ibiza standards. It's home to 162 rooms and suites, which explains why mine felt on the snug side. As part of Marriott's design-led W brand, the whole place is built around that signature stylish, music-first aesthetic rather than the classic resort blueprint.

It was also W Hotels' debut in the Balearic Islands, landing in Santa Eulària rather than the louder west coast. A deliberate choice. Compared with hotels in Ibiza Town, hotels in Ibiza Old Town, or the San Antonio hotel belt, W Ibiza is a genuinely different proposition — quieter, more secluded, beach on your doorstep. The brand chose the seclusion over the proximity to the clubs.

The Restaurants

Fire is the W Ibiza's main restaurant, and it's where I had breakfast each morning. Mediterranean-leaning, relaxed, and the cooking is genuinely good. Worth booking for the morning spread alone, even if you're not staying.

The Room

I was booked into a cozy room. I didn’t get an upgrade as the hotel didn’t know I was a Marriott Platinum. As I mentioned earlier, I gave them my Bonvoy number at check in.

The room was very small. The smallest hotel I’ve been in for some time.

I was in room 412. It was facing the building next door. Generally, that’s not the view you want. You want to look over the pool and the sea.

The room had the following:

  • Double bed
  • Large TV
  • Small wardrobe
  • Seat and small table
  • Small balcony
  • Small bathroom with shower

There was no desk. However, I don’t know if people go to Ibiza to use a computer!

Ultimately, the room was functional. If you hit the pool in the day and the clubs at night, then you won’t spend much time in the room.

The design of the room was funky, like the rest of the hotel.

The W isn't the only stylish hotel that's let me down on the details. The stylish Kimpton in Edinburgh looked the part too, yet I came away unimpressed, so it's worth a read before you book anywhere on the strength of the photos.

The Breakfast

I had breakfast in Fire restaurant each day. The quality was pretty good. The following was on offer:

  • Fresh fruit
  • Pastries
  • bread
  • cold cuts
  • sausages. Meat and veg
  • mushrooms
  • bacon
  • pancakes
  • cook to order eggs
  • Tea and coffee to order

The fresh fruit was lovely. I had watermelon and papaya. It was fresh and delicious.

I also had pancakes, veg sausages and mushrooms. It was all well cooked and fresh.

The pancakes were like the Scotch pancakes, rather than the fat stack of pancakes you get in the US. I still enjoyed it!

I had two pots of English breakfast tea to order.

The Pool

The hotel has a nice pool area. There's a DJ there, playing chilled house beats. It was the perfect vibe.

People were tired from the night before. Ready to get into the mood before partying again.

The pool isn’t heated. It was 30 degrees as I was there in June. However, the water felt cold as you got in.

The Beach

There is a public beach behind the hotel. It’s a nice spot to walk. Although I didn’t see any people using the beach. There weren’t any sun loungers.

I took a couple of photos in the above slideshow.

The Kid friendliness

I don’t view this hotel as kid friendly. There aren’t any activities for them.

I only saw one kid during my stay. Ultimately, Ibiza is a place geared towards adults.

If you do bring kids, this is probably a good place to stay. You're far away from the clubs and partying.

I would not personally take my kids to Ibiza. I would prefer to go to Mallorca, which is the island next to Ibiza.

If it's the kids you're planning around, the W just isn't built for them. For a proper family base I'd point you instead at the Marriott Maui Ocean Club family resort, which is packed with activities to keep little ones busy all day.

If you're specifically searching for ibiza hotels for families, W Ibiza is worth a look — though it helps to go in with the right expectations. It's not a dedicated family resort. More design hotel than soft-play paradise. What it does have is a calm, beachfront setting, a pool, and a pace that doesn't feel frantic.

The Gym

There was a gym at the W Ibiza. I popped inside to take a look. I didn’t get time to use it. Between doing a review and partying with my buddies, a gym session was never going to happen!

My Take

I stayed at the W Ibiza for a friend's birthday, and I came away genuinely torn. The pool with its chilled house DJ, the steam room that nearly cooked me, the breakfast at Fire. All spot on. But the room was the smallest I've had in years, facing the building next door rather than the sea, and $700 for two nights is not pocket change.

It's secluded too, a 20km haul from the airport out in Santa Eulària. That's the whole point of the place. You're not next to the clubs, so you can chill by the pool in the day and head out at night. If that's the holiday you want, the W delivers it.

So who's it for? Couples and groups who fancy a stylish, grown-up base away from the San Antonio madness, and who won't mind a snug room because they'll barely be in it. If you're after space, a sea view, or somewhere cheap, this isn't your hotel. For everyone else, the W Ibiza is a cracking little spot. Just sort your transfer before you land.
