There are a number of Liverpool Marriot Hotels. This trip report covers my stay at the Liverpool Aloft. I stayed for one night and was impressed. The hotel occupies a beautiful building in Liverpool City Centre. Best of all? I only paid £59 ($75) for the stay – a steal!
The hotel building is really stunning. It’s my favourite thing about the hotel. It’s a “listed building”. In the UK, a “listed building” means that it has a special historical and architectural importance. I took loads of photos for this review. All the photos can be clicked and pop out into a slideshow.
If you want a hotel in the centre of town, then the Liverpool Aloft is a fabulous option.
The Aloft Hotel in Liverpool has a great location! The hotel is on Water Street, right in the centre. It’s in the middle of the trendy bars, restaurants and shops. It’s one of the best locations in the city. The Centre of Liverpool isn’t large. You can walk to everywhere from the Liverpool Aloft.
You’re 5 minutes walk to the waterfront. That area has seen massive regeneration in recent years. It also contains the Beatles Statue.
The city of Liverpool has changed a lot in recent years. A lot of money has been invested, and the city centre is very nice. The city is very different to when I 1st visited. In 2004, I came here as a young man! Every bar I went to, had a stickly floor! Also, nearly every venue was playing The Beatles. The Beatles were a rock band that came from Liverpool They are regarded as the most influential band in music history.
The Aloft Hotel in Liverpool is in a majestic building. The exterior of the hotel is grand, with huge windows. The building was formerly the “Royal Insurance” building. It was built in 1900. It was converted to the Liverpool Aloft in 2014. £18 million was invested into the hotel and it’s in great condition. There’s a photo of the building at the top of the article.
The design of the hotel is really nice. The rooms and the public areas are in excellent shape. The furniture is modern in its style. In terms of facilities, the restaurant and bar are located on the ground floor. There’s no swimming pool at the hotel. It’s basically a bed factory. Just a very nice one in a great location!
The branding of the hotel is weird! The Aloft brand is Marriott’s attempt to appeal to people in their 20’s and 30’s. I don’t understand how the Liverpool Aloft is meant to appeal to young adults. The rooms don’t have an iron and no bottled water is provided. Do Marriot assume that young people drink from the toilet?! I actually think Marriott have missed a trick here. The hotel has an amazing location in a beautiful building. They could re-brand as a luxury hotel, like JW Marriott or Le Meridien. Liverpool doesn’t have many luxury hotels. This could be an excellent opportunity.
I was given a room on the top floor (6th), overlooking the city. I was upgraded as I’m a Marriott Platinum. This was a pretty great upgrade! I loved the view. Liverpool is a low-lying city, so I could see over most buildings. The window faced east, so we got some lovely sun in the morning. If you’re on the 6th floor in Manhattan, you wouldn’t see anything!
The room had the following features:
On balance, I liked the room. The design was nice and somewhat unique. There was a large headboard above the bed. Behind that was the bathroom.
The room felt spacious, even though it wasn’t large. This is because there wasn’t a wardrobe in the room.
The in-room tea and coffee facilities were basic. A kettle, some tea bags and instant coffee. No Nespresso machine here!
I was annoyed that there wasn’t an iron or any bottled water. My wife wanted to iron some of her clothes, but wasn’t able to. I could have called reception and asked for an iron, but I couldn’t be bothered.
I took loads of photos of the room. View them in the above slideshow.
The Aloft Hotel in Liverpool is a great option if you’re visiting the city. The hotel is right in the middle of the action, and the building is beautiful. I was also fortunate to have a room overlooking the city. There isn’t that much to do at the hotel. There’s no swimming pool. It’s just a bed factory.
I’m lucky enough to visit Liverpool a lot. Previously, I stayed and reviewed the Radisson Blu Liverpool. That hotel is in a modern building, with a swimming pool. It’s just 10 minutes walk from the Liverpool Aloft. However, the Liverpool Aloft is much closer to the centre. I don’t know which hotel I prefer. I liked them both!
The Doubletree Liverpool is on the same road as the Aloft. I reviewed that hotel too. It’s a lovely hotel. It has a hydrotherapy pool, good breakfast and a beautiful design. One of the best hotels in the city.
I flew in British Airways Club Europe from London to Amsterdam. Review Here. Club Europe is the name of British Airways short haul business class. I had an excellent flight. The food was good and the champagne was on tap. The guy next to me downed four drinks in the 1 hour flight! He then started a drunken conversation with me… awkward!
