Liverpool Doubletree by Hilton Review

Liverpool is a wonderful city, but it’s not great for luxury hotels. The Liverpool Doubletree by Hilton is one of the best hotels in the city. It’s a fantastic spa hotel right in the centre of town. I had a terrific stay. The hotel is in a classy grade 2 listed building. It has spacious rooms and the breakfast was high quality.

I stayed at the Liverpool Doubletree Hilton for one night. I used the hotel as a base to travel round the city. The location of the hotel is ideal. It’s right in the centre of town, in the posh part of the city.

As always, I took loads of photos for this review. The sacrifices of a blogger! You can click any photo, to open the full slideshow.

What I Liked

  • Excellent city centre location
  • Hydrotherapy pool
  • Hotel has a classy design
  • Good quality breakfast
  • Good elite benefits

What can be improved

  • No bottled water in the rooms

The Hotel

The Liverpool Doubletree by Hilton is right in the city centre. 5 minutes walk from Liverpool One shopping centre. 10 minutes walk from the docks and the Beatles statue. The Doubletree Liverpool is just north of the city centre, on Dale Street. In my view, this is the classiest part of the city. It’s a bit quieter, and the buildings are large and impressive.

The main feature of the Doubletree is that it’s a spa hotel. There’s a hydrotherapy pool, sauna, steam room and whirlpool. There’s also a fitness centre on sight.

The Hotel is well designed on the inside and the outside. The external façade is a large listed building. The hotel describes the building as “Corinthian architecture”. I don’t know what that is, but it sounds impressive! The inside of the hotel is similarly well designed. There are grand staircases, exposed brickwork and classic furniture. The hotel has an old English charm.

I’ve uploaded lots of photos, in the above slideshow.

The Room

I got an excellent upgrade to a large room on the 5th floor (the hotel has 7 floors). This was on the back of my status as a Hilton Gold. The Front Desk Agent described the room as a suite. I think that’s a bit optimistic! A suite should have a separate living area. My room didn’t have that. I was in a good mood however, so I appreciated his enthusiasm/exaggeration!

The room (not a suite!) was very nice. It had the following features:

  • Super-king bed
  • Nespresso machine
  • Large bathroom with separate bath and shower
  • Large desk

The room was very well designed, with expensive pieces of furniture. Everything was in immaculate condition. It looks like the room had been recently refurbished. The bathroom had a shower and a separate bath. This is a common feature in luxury hotels. In my view, the room was more 5* than 4*.

There are lots of photos in the above slideshow.

The Breakfast

The breakfast was good – small but mighty! I find that 4* breakfasts in England, can to be hit and miss. English breakfasts (eggs, sausages, bacon etc.) are obviously very popular. The problem arises when the food isn’t fresh. This is a common issue. Fried bacon that was cooked two hours ago can be pretty unappealing. The Liverpool Doubletree by Hilton breakfast was better than most.

The breakfast was served from the buffet. They had the following options:

  • Bacon
  • Eggs
  • Sausages (meat and veggie)
  • Beans
  • Cooked Mushrooms
  • Cooked tomatoes
  • Hash browns
  • Cereals

It’s not the biggest spread you’ll see, but everything was well made. I had yoghurt, hash browns, mushrooms and veggie sausages. I enjoyed everything.

The Spa

The Liverpool Doubletree by Hilton has a nice spa. There’s a hydrotherapy pool, sauna, steam room and whirlpool.

Overall

The Liverpool Doubletree by Hilton is a fabulous hotel. It’s right in the centre of Liverpool, the spa is lovely and the building is really classy. The hotel markets itself as 4*. But it’s nicer than some 5* hotels I’ve been to. If you are visiting Liverpool, then it’s a great option.

The Doubletree Liverpool is 2 minutes away from the Aloft Liverpool. I reviewed that hotel too. The Aloft is a hugely impressive hotel, in a beautiful building. I really enjoyed my stay. I had a lovely room, overlooking the city.

Another good option is the Radisson Blu Liverpool. Review here. The hotel is 5 minutes walk from the city centre. It’s in a modern building with a swimming pool. I stayed in a room with a fabulous view of the water.
