American Airlines Flagship First Lounge Miami Review

I loved the American Airlines Flagship First Lounge in Miami International Airport (MIA).

The American Airlines Flagship First Lounge in Miami had bottomless champagne and premium spirits. A selection of freshly made, healthy food. A bright and spacious design. And it wasn’t too busy.

Sadly, your Admirals Airlines pass won't get you in. If you want to see what a standard American Airlines Admirals Club actually looks like, my Denver review walks you through it, so you know exactly what you're trading up from here.

If you're flying out of Miami on a different airline, it's worth knowing the best BA lounge in Miami is just as good. Handy to have a backup in your pocket before you book.

What I Liked

  • Bottomless champagne
  • Lounge was not busy
  • Excellent and healthy food
  • Bright lounge
  • Lots of seating
  • Runway views

What Could Be Improved

  • All good from me!

The Location

The American Airlines Flagship First Lounge is located next to D30 in Miami Airport. A 5 minute walk after security. It is one level above the Flagship Admirals Lounge.

The Flagship First Lounge is in Concourse D of Miami's North Terminal. The home of Admirals Airlines flights.

Getting here from security is refreshingly simple. No trains, no monorails, no 15-minute trek past half the terminal. You just follow the signs and you're at the door in no time. After some of the lounges I've had to hike to, this was a pleasant surprise.

One thing worth nailing down before you go hunting for it: the American Airlines Flagship First Lounge Miami sits inside Miami International Airport (MIA). Worth saying out loud, because search that name and you'll trip over the Flagship First Lounges at Dallas, LA and Chicago too. This one is MIA, plain and simple.

One thing worth flagging. This isn't a Priority Pass lounge. So you can't swipe your way in on a membership. You'll need the right cabin or status to get through the door — more on exactly how I managed it just below.

Use an eSIM in Miami

When I landed in Miami, I used an eSIM to save a fortune on data instead of paying my carrier's roaming rates. I paid $4.50 for 7 days — 1GB. Other packages are available.

The provider is rated 4.7* from over 17,000 reviews.

Honestly, this deal is a no brainer. I'm angry I didn't start using an eSIM years ago!

Park, Sleep, Then Fly

If you've got an early flight out of Miami, driving in bleary-eyed at 4am is its own special misery. I sort it by booking a hotel near the airport with parking thrown in, so I sleep close by, leave the car for the trip, and stroll to my gate rested. You can book a park, sleep and fly bundle here — one of those small upgrades that makes the whole trip start better.

The Best Activities in Miami

Walk South Beach and Ocean Drive

You can't come to Miami and skip South Beach. The art deco buildings, the pastel colours, the sand that goes on forever. I wandered Ocean Drive in the sun and it didn't cost me a penny. Pure people-watching gold.

Speedboat Sightseeing Adventure of Miami

If you want to see the city from the water with a bit of a thrill, you can book here. It's $42 and rated 4.6* from over 3,100 reviews. You'll zip across Biscayne Bay and get the skyline and the celebrity mansions from a fast boat. Just know it's a bumpy ride, so maybe not one for a delicate stomach.

Little Havana Food and Walking Tour

This is the premium pick, and frankly the reviews speak for themselves. Book your spot here for $70. It's rated 4.9* from over 9,600 reviews, which is about as good as it gets. You'll eat your way through Little Havana with a local guide, soaking up the Cuban food and culture. Pricier than the rest, but you're paying for the best-rated tour in the city.

Miami City Tour – 5 Sites, 4 Stops

For a proper overview of the city in one go, you can book here. It's just $27 and rated 4.7* from over 760 reviews. Five sites, four stops, three and a half hours. A solid, well-priced way to get your bearings if it's your first time in Miami.

The Entry Requirements

I got entry to the American Airlines Flagship First Lounge Miami as I was flying in international business class with British Airways.

Here are the different ways to get into the American Airlines Flagship First Lounge Miami:

  • Must be flying American Airlines or a oneworld partner the same day
  • Travelling in a qualifying Flagship Business or First cabin
  • Or holding eligible oneworld elite status on a qualifying international itinerary
  • No access on standard economy tickets
  • An Admirals Club membership alone won't get you through the door

That last one catches people out. A standard Admirals Club pass is a different tier entirely, so don't turn up expecting it to work.

So who actually gets into the American Airlines Flagship First Lounge Miami? It's a notch more exclusive than your standard airport lounge, which is half the appeal. You'll need to be flying American Airlines or a oneworld partner that same day. And you'll need to be travelling in a qualifying Flagship Business or First cabin, or holding eligible oneworld elite status on a qualifying international itinerary.

Bottom line. Check your booking and your status before you bank on getting in. The access rules are the access rules, and the door staff at the American Airlines Flagship First Lounge Miami won't bend them for a hopeful smile.

The Lounge Access with Priority Pass

The Flagship First Lounge isn't something you can simply buy your way into. If you don't have the cabin or the status, you're out.

Which is why Priority Pass is the backup I'd actually have in my pocket. Signup here and get a 30% discount. Unlimited lounge access costs $422 and gets you into over 1,800 lounges worldwide.

Standard Plus costs $263 and gives you 10 free lounge visits. So each visit works out at $26.30. The cheapest membership is $69.

For me, that's far better value than eating in the terminal. A sit-down breakfast and a coffee at an airport restaurant is creeping towards $30 before you've even ordered a beer.

Add a couple of drinks to start your holiday and you're easily looking at $80 for a meal you'll forget by the gate.

Priority Pass have 3 lounges, one restaurant and a spa at Miami airport.

Priority Pass isn't perfect, mind. Lounges fill up, and a full lounge can turn you away at the door. I've paid $7 to pre-book a timeslot before, which guarantees your spot.

The Lounge

The Flagship First lounge is a large rectangle shape. With an atrium in the centre.

It wasn’t busy at all when I was there. Very different to an Admirals Lounge — the American Airlines Flagship First Lounge in Miami is a far calmer place to wait.

There was a wide variety of seating. And loads of charging points. Nearly all the seats were upholstered in leather.

One side of the lounge has floor to ceiling windows. Which had nice runway views out over Miami International.

There was a kids play area. Which I didn’t visit.

There were two buffets. A main buffet with the lunch. And a smaller buffet with fruit and coffee.

There were tea and coffee stations throughout the lounge.

The American Airlines Flagship First Lounge in Miami is a relatively recent addition to Concourse D, having opened back in 2019. So it's one of the newer Flagship spaces in the network. Which is part of why it still feels so bright and fresh.

All things considered, the American Airlines Flagship First Lounge in Miami is a bright, calm, easy place to kill time before a flight. Plenty of seating, charging points everywhere, two buffets, and those big runway-facing windows.

As Flagship First Lounges go, this is one of the newer ones in the network. And it shows.

The Food

I LOVED the food! I find it very difficult to get healthy food at an airport. The American Airlines Flagship First Lounge Miami was a notable exception!

The food was available from the buffet. There were 5 hot dishes. Fish, chicken, polenta, roast potatoes and roast squash.

There were two soups. Tomato and chicken.

There was cold salad, rice pudding, roast cauliflower, cold cuts, fresh fruit, chips and sandwiches.

I had the polenta, roast squash, cauliflower, roast potatoes, tomato soup and chips. It all tasted great!

I was super impressed!

What really sold me on the American Airlines Flagship First Lounge Miami was how easy it was to eat well before a flight. The menu isn't trying to be clever. It's just honest, proper food — hot dishes, soups, salad and fresh fruit, all laid out so you grab what you fancy. For an airport, that's rare.

The Drinks

As I walked into the American Airlines Flagship First Lounge Miami, a lady offered me champagne. It felt rude to say no, so I had a glass. It was really nice!

Bollinger special Cuvée. Retails for $70.

There were also premium spirits at the buffet. Including Chivas Regal Whisky and Grey Goose vodka.

The American Airlines Flagship Miami lounge also had a massive self service drinks bar. With champagne, wines and premium spirits. I wish I could handle my alcohol! As I would have drunk more!

Tea and coffee were available from a machine. There was also a soda machine.

There was also fresh drip coffee available.

Being handed a glass of champagne the moment I walked in set the tone for the whole visit. That's the thing about the American Airlines Flagship First Lounge Miami — it takes the bit of travel everyone dreads, the waiting around, and makes it feel like the start of the trip rather than a chore.

My Take

I loved the American Flagship Miami lounge, and the verdict writes itself. The bottomless Bollinger, the genuinely healthy buffet, the bright space with runway views — it all landed. And it wasn't even busy. After years of grabbing sad sandwiches at airports, finding polenta, roast squash and proper soup before a flight felt like a small miracle.

The only catch is getting in. This isn't a Priority Pass lounge, so you can't swipe your way through the door. I made it in flying international business class. If you've got the right cabin or status, it's an easy five-minute walk from security with no monorails or treks involved. Would I go back? In a heartbeat. If you can get through the door, the Flagship First in Miami is one of the best lounge stops you'll find.

If you can get in, it is worth every minute before your flight. That is the honest verdict.
