Austrian Lounge Vienna Review

The Austrian Airlines Lounge in Vienna Terminal 3 is a terrific little lounge. I skipped lunch specifically to sit down hungry, and the meal here proved worth the wait.

The lounge is also beautifully bright, with floor-to-ceiling windows.

There is more than one Austrian Airlines Lounge in Vienna airport. This review is for the lounge in the non-Schengen zone in Terminal 3.

If your flight is to the UK or outside the EU, you will end up here. This applies if you fly with Austrian or a Star Alliance partner.

The kitchen at the Austrian Airlines lounge in Vienna deserves its own paragraph. This isn't reheated buffet fare. The food was properly cooked and spiced — which, frankly, is not the standard you'd expect in an airport lounge.

The tea selection was genuinely unexpected. Julie's Meini — a popular Vienna brand that costs €6 a cup elsewhere in the city — was complimentary. The bar was equally straightforward: self-serve beer, wine, and spirits, so you pour exactly what you want and move on.

What impressed me most was the peace and quiet. When I spent three hours here, the lounge never topped half capacity. The service was attentive without being intrusive — someone came by every five minutes to clear plates. It hit all the high spots without the usual airport chaos.

If you're keen to access similar lounges worldwide, Priority Pass on my Recommended Resources page is worth checking out. There are other tools there too — all things I've actually used and tested.

What I Liked

  • Bright lounge
  • Well cooked food
  • Good service
  • Lounge not too busy
  • Complimentary bar
  • Organic tea selection

What Could Be Improved

  • No complaints from me

The Entry Requirements

Access to the Austrian Airlines Lounge in Vienna requires one of the following:

  • Flying Business class with Austrian Airlines or a Star Alliance partner airline
  • Star Alliance status
  • Access from select other airlines (Etihad sends business class passengers here)

The Lounge Access with Priority Pass

If you don't have Star Alliance status or a qualifying ticket, Priority Pass is your best bet. Signup here and get a 30% discount.

Unlimited lounge access costs $422 a year. That's access to over 1,800 lounges worldwide.

Standard Plus runs $263 for 10 free visits. Each visit works out to $26.30.

The cheapest option is $69.

In my view, a lounge visit is much better value than eating at the terminal. A decent meal and a couple of drinks easily cost $80 or more when you add tip.

Priority Pass lounges can get full. I pay $7 to pre-book a timeslot to guarantee entry.

Priority Pass has two lounges at Vienna Airport.

The Location

The Austrian Airlines Lounge in Vienna is located in Terminal 3. Star Alliance Airlines depart from this terminal.

The lounge is in the non-Schengen zone. You first need to get through security. Then it’s a 5-minute walk to passport control.

After passport control, the entrance to the lounge is on your right.

The Lounge

The Austrian Airlines Lounge in Vienna Terminal 3 is medium-sized, roughly rectangular, next to the windows. It has the following features:

  • Floor-to-ceiling windows
  • Lots of natural light
  • Hot buffet
  • Complimentary bar

The lounge wasn’t busy when I was there. I was there for three hours, and it was never more than half full.

The lounge had floor-to-ceiling windows. It was a sunny day. Runway views from some seating areas.

The service was very impressive. Every five minutes, someone came by to clear the dishes.

The Food

In a word, the food at the Austrian Airlines Lounge in Vienna was delicious—a small hot buffet with a couple of dishes. The food was properly cooked and spiced. Not reheated in the oven!

The following options were available

  • Smoked meat
  • Potato pie
  • Mash potato
  • Boiled vegetables
  • Creamy garlic soup
  • Bread
  • Sandwiches
  • Apple strudel
  • Fresh fruit

There were three counters with buffet options.

I had mash potato, garlic soup, potato pie, bread and apple strudel. The food was lovely. Admittedly, I was hungry!

I hadn’t eaten lunch. I was pleased with that decision.

The Drinks

Coffee was available from a machine.

There was also a selection of organic teas. By a brand called Julie’s Meini. It’s a very popular brand in Vienna. I paid €6 for a Julie’s Meini tea in central Vienna.

In my experience, Germany and Austria have some of the highest quality tea. I live in London, and the tea isn’t as good.

I haven't visited China yet. I visited the China Southern Lounge in Guangzhou airport. They had a local tea ceremony, which was terrific.

I had an Earl Grey tea with a dash of milk. It was really good.

The Austrian Airlines Lounge in Vienna had a complimentary bar where all alcohol was self-serve. Beer, wine and spirits were offered.

I had a glass of white wine a little later.

Conclusion

I really enjoyed my stay at the Austrian Airlines Lounge in Vienna. The lounge isn’t the biggest, but it hit the high spots.

The food was good and the alcohol was free!

Spend three hours in an airport lounge and it usually feels like three days. Not here. The Austrian Airlines Lounge in Vienna Terminal 3 stayed quiet and pleasant throughout my visit. If you've got access, absolutely use it.

Flying Austrian from Vienna? I've reviewed their Austrian Airlines business class — worth checking if the flight matches the lounge quality.
