Los Angeles is a large City on the west coast of the United States. 50 million tourists visit LA every year. It’s home to Hollywood, beautiful beaches, great weather and amazing theme parks. It’s also where the rich and famous live.

With all that wealth, Los Angeles has a reputation for being an expensive area. Don’t let that put you off! There are many great hotels to stay at, without breaking the bank. In this article, I list 33 terrific cheap hotels on Los Angeles.

I’ve broken down the hotels by their neighbourhoods. I provide a summary of each neighbourhood, and then list the best budget hotels.

Hollywood

Hollywood is a neighbourhood in Los Angeles. Famously, it’s home to the film industry in the United states. It has many film studios, including Universal, Warner Brothers and Paramount.

You have the Hollywood walk of fame. Where the names of 2,275 movie starts are immortalised on the sidewalk. You also have the Hollywood sign.

The area is very popular for tourists. Even better, there’s loads of excellent budget hotels.

The Hotel West Inn is great value. Rooms start at $50 for a bedroom with shared bathroom. For a room with a private bathroom, rooms start at $65. The hotel is 1 mile away from the Hollywood Bowl.

The Hotel H Wood is the cheapest hotel with a swimming pool. It has a great location on Sunset Boulevard. Rooms start at $110/night. The hotel is 3*. Universal Studios are 3 miles away.

The Godfrey Hotel is the cheapest 4* hotel. Rates start at $160/night. The hotel is right in the centre of Hollywood. The Hollywood Walk of fame is half a mile away. The hotel has a rooftop pool, 24 hour fitness centre and a gastropub on site.

Los Feliz. Greater Hollywood

Los Feliz is in the Greater Hollywood area. About 20 miles away from LAX airport.

Motel 6 is the cheapest hotel in Los Feliz. Prices start at $75 for 1 night. The property is about 7 miles from the centre of Hollywood.

Jewel City Inn is 6 miles from the centre of Hollywood. Prices start at $100/night. Some rooms have a kitchen and microwave.

Embassy Suites provide a more luxury option. Prices start at $190/night. The hotel has suites rather than rooms. Each suite has a separate living room. The hotel also has a really nice swimming pool. The hotel is 6 miles from the centre of Hollywood.

Silver Lake. Good for Hollywood

Silver Lake is a residential neighbourhood in LA County. About 20 miles from LAX airport. The neighbourhood is right next to Hollywood.

The Comfort Inn Los Angeles is 4 miles away from the centre of Hollywood. It’s an excellent option. The hotel is on the famed Sunset Boulevard. Rates start at $95/night.

If you want a more luxury option, The Westin Bonaventure is the cheapest hotel. Rates start at $165/night. The hotel is 4 miles from the centre of Hollywood, and 1 mile from the Staples Centre. The hotel has a restaurant on the 35th floor with Panoramic views. There is also a lovely outdoor pool.

Downtown Los Angeles. The Business District

Downtown Los Angeles is the business district in LA. About 15 miles from LAX airport. Historically, Downtown has been a cheap location. However since 2000, the area has undergone a rebirth and regeneration. That being said, it’s still possible to find a cheap hotel.

Holiday Lodge is probably the cheapest hotel in Downtown Los Angeles. Prices start at $75/night, for a room. The hotel has an excellent location. 1 mile away from the staples Centre.

The Live Hotel is just a mile away from Downtown Los Angeles. It has a swimming pool and rates start at just $90/night. The crypto.com arena is a 2 minute drive away.

The Stile Downtown Los Angeles is the cheapest 4* hotel. Pretty good it is too. It’s right in the centre of downtown LA. It has a swimming pool, rooftop bar and free bike hire.

 

Santa Monica. Beach resort town

Santa Monica is a coastal city in LA County. Santa Monica is a resort town, that has beautiful sandy beaches. 15 miles from LAX airport. The beach also contains Santa Monica Pier. Which is very popular with tourists.

Given the beach side location, Santa Monica is one of the more expensive regions of the city. There’s still bargains to be had however!

Ocean Park Hotel is one the cheapest hotels. Rates start at $95 per night. The hotel is 3 miles away from Santa Monica Pier. The hotel has free parking. Each room has a microwave and a fridge.

The Comfort Inn Santa Monica is the cheapest hotel with a swimming pool. Rates start at $160/night. The hotel is 3 miles away from Santa Monica Pier. Every room has a fridge, microwave and safe.

4* hotels are more expensive than other locations. Because of the great beaches. Apartments are a great option in Santa Monica. As they offer more space. These apartments are 4* and the rates start at $250/night.

 

Venice. Beach Resort Town

Venice is an ocean side city in Los Angeles. It’s a super popular seaside town. It’s famous for the beach, canals and ocean front walk. It’s a stunning location.

As with all seaside towns, hotel rates are more expensive. The best deals to be had are listed below.

The Samesun Venice Beach is surely the cheapest option. It has a terrific location, on the Venice Beach Boardwalk. Rates start at $125/night for a double room. Samesun is a hostel. However the $125 figure is for a private room with bathroom. The hostel is open 24 hours. They offer free boogie board and padel board rentals.

The AIR Venice on the Beach is the cheapest option, if you want a sea view. The hotel is located on Venice Oceanfront Walk. Rates start at $140/night for a room with sea view. Each room has its own coffee machine.

The Inn at Venice Beach is the cheapest luxury option. Rates start at $240/night. The hotel is highly rated by guests. Each room has cable TV and a coffee maker. The rooms are large and you’re only 3 minutes away from Venice Beach Park.


Malibu. Beach Resort Town

Malibu is a beach city. 30 miles away from LAX airport. It’s a very wealthy area. Numerous Hollywood celebrities have homes there. The area is famous for its beaches and its parks.

The M Malibu is the cheapest hotel in Malibu. Rates start at $190 for 1 night. The property has an outdoor pool and is 500 feet away from the beach. The hotel provides free beach towels to all guests. Loads of restaurants are walking distance from the hotel. It’s a great spot for a vacation.

If you want something more luxury, you can get a whole apartment for $320/night. Book here. The apartments are right on the beach, with private access. The complex is gated with private parking. There is also a private garden and terrace.

Beverly Hills and Bel Air. Where the Rich Live

Beverly Hills is a suburb of Los Angeles. 12 miles from LAX airport. Beverly Hills is a very wealthy part of Los Angeles. With expensive property prices and high taxes. Rodeo Drive shopping district has many designer brands.

That being said, it’s still possible to find a cheap hotel here.

Hotel De Flores has rooms that start at $125/night. It’s right in the centre of Beverly Hills.

If you want a hotel with a pool, your best bet is the Starhit Beverly Room Spa. Rooms start at $140/night.

The Crescent powered by Sonder is the cheapest luxury hotel. Rates start at $175/night. The hotel is historic and is 5 minutes from Rodeo Drive.

Bel Air is 15 miles north of LAX airport. It’s a mostly residential neighbourhood. It’s an extremely affluent area.

There aren’t many hotels in Bel Air at all. Your best bet is to stay in a hotel nearby.

The Studio City Court Yard Hotel is close to Highway 101. 5 miles from Bel Air. Prices start at $85 for a night and the hotel comes with a swimming pool. The hotel is right next to the Dodgers Stadium. Fresh tea and coffee are offered in the lobby, 24 hours a day. It’s a pretty great option.

The Best Western Carriage Inn is the cheapest 4* hotel. Prices start at $150/night. The hotel has a swimming pool, fitness centre and cocktail lounge. You’re moments away from Universal Studios.

 



 

Culver City. Famous for film production

Culver City has historically been the centre of TV and Film production in Los Angeles. The area is just 6 miles away from LAX Airport. Sony Pictures have their headquarters in Culver City.

The Culver City Hostel is right in the centre of Culver City. A private rooms starts at $70/night.

The Park Cienega Motel is 2 miles from the centre of Culver City. 5 miles away from Venice Beach. Prices start at $85/night.

The Hilton Los Angeles is the cheapest luxury hotel in Culver City. Rates start at $200/night. The hotel is 3 miles from the centre of Culver City. It has a heated outdoor pool and an excellent fitness centre.



Pasadena. Popular resort town

Pasadena is 25 miles away from LAX airport. Pasadena is home to the Rose Bowl. The 16th largest stadium in the world. With a capacity of over 92,000. The town of Pasadena has historically been a popular resort town.

The Hi-Way Host Motel is a good budget option in Pasadena. Prices start at $70/night. The motel has an outdoor pool.

The Hotel Le Reve Pasadena is another budget option. This hotel also has an outdoor pool. Each room has a fridge and a coffee machine. The Rose Bowl is a 10 minute drive from the hotel. Prices start at $80/night.

The cheapest luxury option is the Hotel Dena, Pasadena Los Angeles, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel. Rates start at $175/night. The hotel has an outdoor pool and a fitness centre.

 

Koreatown. Close to Downtown and the Staples Centre

Koreatown is 12 miles from LAX airport. The area has historically had a high population of Koreans. According to the census, two thirds of residents were born outside of the US.

The 8th and Ardmore is the cheapest hotel in Koreatown. Rates start at $40/night. The hotel is right in the centre of town. The hotel is 3 miles from the Staples Centre and comes highly rated.

The Best Western Mid Town LA is also in the centre of Koreatown. Rates start at $120/night. Each room comes with free breakfast.

The H by H Hospitality is the best value luxury option in Koreatown. Half a mile from Koreatown. It’s a pretty classy hotel, with well designed public areas. Rates start at $155/night.

 

Conclusion

Los Angeles is one the greatest places on Earth. To visit there is a dream. While it can be very expensive, there’s also some great budget options. In this article, I’ve listed 33 Cheap Hotels on Los Angeles.
