Sheraton Orlando North Review. Maitland Florida

The Sheraton Orlando North is an excellent option. If you need a hotel in Maitland Florida. The hotel is well priced. There’s also a nice pool, an executive lounge and a large car park.

It’s also an option if you’re visiting Orlando for leisure. I only paid $110/night. Orlando is a popular tourist destination. However, hotels prices have risen in recent years. You’re only 30 minutes drive from Walt Disney World.

Even better is that an American Breakfast costs $12. This is a big deal for me! I hate going to a hotel and being charged $30 for the breakfast buffet. Either I need to pay $30 for an average buffet. Or I go to Starbucks and pay $15 for coffee and a crappy bagel. Going to the hotel restaurant and getting a great breakfast for $12 is a massive win for me.

I took loads of photos for this review. Each photo can be clicked to open out the full slideshow.

What I Liked

  • Well priced for Orlando
  • Well Located for Maitland Florida
  • Club Lounge on 6th floor
  • I enjoyed the Breakfast
  • Nice pool area

What Could Be Improved

  • Not right next to the Disney Parks
  • Not a luxury hotel

The Booking

I paid $110/night (including taxes), at the Sheraton Orlando Maitland. This is excellent for Orlando. The resorts next to Disney World cost around $350/night. If you’re willing to drive further to the theme parks, then you can save a lot of money. The Sheraton Orlando Maitland is 30 minutes drive from Disney World.

I have Platinum Status with Marriott, so I prefer to book with Marriott. I get extra benefits, such as room upgrades and extra Bonvoy points. I use my Bonvoy points to stay at great hotels, that I couldn't afford to book with cash! Like the spectacular Westin Hapuna in Big Island, Hawaii.

If you’re not a member of Marriott Bonvoy, then you can signup here. If you use my link, you earn 2,000 bonus points for your 1st five stays.

The Location

I stayed at the Sheraton Orlando Maitland for 6 nights. It’s located in the city of Maitland, which is north of Orlando. You’re 20 miles from the Walt Disney World Park. About half an hour to drive. Universal Studios and Epcot Centre are also close to the Disney Park.

The Hotel

The Sheraton Orlando Maitland is arranged over 6 floors. It has the following facilities:

  • Outdoor Swimming pool
  • Fitness Centre
  • First floor restaurant and Irish Bar
  • Starbucks café on the first floor
  • Small Club Lounge on the 6th Floor

The Sheraton is very much a 4* hotel. The decoration is modern, but not luxury. During my stay, the hotel was pretty empty. I didn’t see many people at breakfast.

On the first floor is the Bloom Café, which serves breakfast. There’s also a small Starbucks, if you don’t want the breakfast buffet. I like the fact that they have a Starbucks, as an alternative option.

There’s an Irish bar, which opens at 4pm each day. Like any Irish Bar, they have Guinness on tap!

There’s a club lounge on the 6th floor. I had access to it, as I’m a Marriott Platinum. The Club Lounge is only open on the weekdays.

The hotel has a massive car park. The car park was pretty full most days. I don’t know where all the cars came from! The hotel itself wasn’t too busy.

The Room

I got a bedroom on the 5th floor (out of 6). I don’t know if I got an upgrade, because of my Marriott Platinum Status. I suspect that I did, but I don’t know for sure. I arrived at 3am on Sunday morning. I was in no state to talk about upgrades. I just wanted to get to my room! The guy in front of me took 15 minutes to check in. Each minute felt like torture!

The bedroom itself felt large. It had the following features:

  • Double bed
  • Two seater sofa
  • Small desk
  • Coffee machine
  • Large TV
  • Bathroom with shower

The room décor was pretty bland. Similar to thousands of hotel rooms across the US. Although all the furniture was in good condition. And the design was modern.

The room was an excellent size for a double room.

To the side of the bed, was a small living area. There was a two seater sofa and a small table. I was travelling alone, so I didn’t use the sofa. I used the table as a desk for working on. I’m sitting on it as I write this!

There was in-room tea and coffee. For coffee, there was a machine that served American style filter coffee. I didn’t try the coffee.

For tea, you need to get hot water from the coffee machine. They don’t have a separate kettle. This is common at hotel rooms in the US. It’s also a bit crap! The water isn’t hot enough to make good tea. Also, there’s coffee residue in the hot water. You guys love your coffee!

The bathroom was pretty small. They had a shower, rather than a bath tub.

The Breakfast

Breakfast was served at the Bloom Café on the First Floor. On weekdays, you order from a menu. On the weekends, a buffet is offered. I think I preferred to order from the menu. As a Marriott Platinum, my breakfast was complimentary.

The weekend buffet had a decent selection of items. The following was available:

  • Scrambled eggs
  • Hash Browns
  • Bacon
  • Sausages
  • Oatmeal
  • Bagels
  • Bread
  • Muffins
  • Pastries
  • Cold Cuts
  • Tea and Coffee to order

I had the weekend buffet a couple of times. I tried bagels, hash browns, pancakes and oatmeal. I found the quality to be good. The buffet dishes were regularly replaced. So the food was fresh.

On the weekdays, you can order from the menu. The menu includes American breakfast, pancakes and continental breakfast. I tried the pancakes and the continental breakfast.

The continental breakfast has pastries, breads, fruit and oatmeal. As with the buffet, the quality was good. The pancakes were a couple of large American style pancakes. Yum!

I tried the tea and coffee. The coffee was American style filter coffee. It was decent.

I tried the tea a couple of times too. It was awful. Weak and lukewarm. I was told that in Florida, they can’t serve tea with boiling water. So it always turns out weak. Lesson learned. Order coffee!

I should also mention that I’m vegetarian. Florida isn’t the best place for veggies. Despite that, I enjoyed my food at the Sheraton. I remember visiting a McDonalds in Miami. I asked what vegan options they have. The cashier looked at me in a confused manner. Then he laughed at me. I ordered a large fries!

The Club Lounge

There’s a club lounge on the 6th floor. I had access, as a Marriott Platinum. It’s small and limited. However, it’s better than nothing. During the day, you can get some coffee and soft drinks.

In the evening, there’s a dinner service and alcohol. I ate there one day for dinner. They had onion rings, chicken wings and salad. The quality wasn’t great. The food had been reheated in the oven.

The lounge is only open on the weekdays.

The Swimming Pool

The Sheraton Orlando Maitland has a surprisingly nice pool. I wasn’t expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised. It’s an outdoor pool, with a nice feature on one side. They also have a hot tub. Which was lovely and hot!

I used the pool a couple of times and enjoyed it. Check out the photos in the above slideshow.

The Fitness Centre

The Sheraton Orlando Maitland has an excellent fitness centre. It has a bunch of cardio machines and dumbbells.

Everything you need for a pretty good workout!

Conclusion

The Sheraton Orlando Maitland is a tidy hotel. It’s located in Maitland Florida. Not too far from Disney World. It’s well priced. It also has a nice pool, small executive lounge and good quality American Breakfast.

If you need a hotel in Maitland Florida. Or you want to save money on your Orlando vacation. Then it’s a great option.

I stayed in Marriott’s Lakeshore Reserve. A lovely resort. Right next to Disney World, Orlando. The resort has apartments with kitchens, rather than hotel rooms. It has a large swimming pool, large water slides and loads of family activities.

I also stayed at Marriott’s Crystal Shores in Marco Island, Florida. A spectacular resort on South Beach, Marco Island. I stayed in a beautiful apartment on the 15th floor. The view was out of this world! They had three swimming pools and a water slide. They had a daily activity schedule including coffee tasting, beach yoga and bingo. The article explains how to book a preview package, and stay at the hotel. $900 for 4 nights.

If you travel through Orlando airport, I can recommend the Plaza Premium Lounge. It’s a beautifully designed airport lounge. It has a really good hot buffet, complimentary alcohol and lots of natural light. In the article, I explain how you can visit the lounge for $26.30, via Priority Pass.
