How do you get to Stansted Airport?

How do you get to Stansted Airport? Stansted Airport is a full 40 miles from Central London. Getting there can be expensive and time consuming. Unless you plan ahead.

I was quoted £250 to take a Black Taxi from Central London!

This quick guide lists the best methods to get to Stansted Airport. With the cost starting at £11 one way.

## How do you get to Stansted Airport? – Quick Summary

**Options:**

**Driving & Parking:**

  • Airport parking can be cheaper for families
  • Hotel + parking packages save up to **25%**

This page on my website has some of my favourite deals. To travel more and travel better.

Trains to London Stansted Airport

When it comes to trains to London Stansted Airport, there is only one! The Stansted Express.

The train goes from London Liverpool Street via Tottenham Hale. It’s not all that fast, taking 45 minutes.

If you buy your ticket at the train station, it costs £27 one way. So don’t do that! You can save money by pre booking online. Fares start at £15.

During the day, the trains run every 15 minutes. During off-peak times, the trains run every 30 minutes. The first train from London Liverpool Street is at 3.40am and the last train is at 11.25pm.

Coaches – The cheapest option

You can book a National Express Coach to London Stansted Airport for £11. Book your ticket from this dedicated page.

The journey takes around 1.5 hours from London Victoria Coach Station. It takes longer than the train, but Victoria might be more convenient for you.

The coaches are surprisingly nice. They have wi-fi, leather seats and (most importantly) toilets. A word of advice however. It’s best to sit near the back, as there will be more space. Last time, I sat at the front next to a very (VERY) fat lady.

The coaches have a 4.2* rating on Trustpilot. From over 100,000 reviews.

Take a Taxi and don’t get ripped off

When I checked, I was quoted £250 for a black taxi to London Stansted Airport. From Central London. It cost more than my flight!

Another option is Uber, who are obviously very popular. I hate Uber. Uber.com has a 1.5* rating on Trustpilot. My personal experiences aren’t good either.

When you need an Uber, there are none available. When you can get an Uber, they jack up the prices. Half the time, the drivers get lost and you get charged!

I always use Welcome Picks for my airport transfers. They operate in over 100 locations worldwide. They also have a 4.9* rating from Trustpilot. As they’re well priced and reliable. Expect to pay £100 for a taxi from Central London.

My Choice for airport parking

How do you get to Stansted Airport? Maybe you want to drive there.

If you have a car, then driving to the airport is a really good option. Given how expensive it is to travel to Stansted.

When it comes to airport parking in the UK, P Parking is my favourite. They have car parks at every major UK Airport. They promise to offer the lowest price.

They have a 4.1* rating from Trustpilot. Not perfect, but pretty good. I’ve never had a problem with them.

When it comes to Official Stansted Airport Parking, it looks like the reviews are very bad. But I’m not sure if the reviews are for the official Stansted Car Parks or for a 3rd party service. Many of the 3rd party companies have similar names.

I heard about companies that collect your car and then park them at a local hotel car park. And hope you don’t get a parking ticket. And if you do get a parking ticket, then you need to pay!

Hotel and Parking Packages – save 25%

Another option is to park at a hotel car park (legally!) and then stay one night. If you book your hotel stay and parking together, then you can save a lot of money. I have some links further down.

My favourite Stansted Airport hotel is the Radisson Blu. Which is located right next to the airport – a 5 minute walk. Book your stay at the Radisson Blu here. I stayed here, but I never published a review on the blog. As nobody reads my reviews of airport hotels!

I liked the Radisson Blu. It has a large atrium at the centre of the hotel. As you can see in the photo above. If you can’t stay at the Radisson Blu, then look for a hotel with an airport shuttle.

Marriott have a page on their website for airport hotel and parking packages. The page offers a 25% discount.

IHG have a page on their website for airport hotel and parking packages.

Hilton have a page on their website for airport hotel and parking packages.

Radisson have a page on their website for airport hotel and parking packages.

Book an airport lounge for £18.30

Airport Lounges are great. You get unlimited food, unlimited drinks and your own personal space.

Historically, you need to fly in business class to use an airport lounge.

However, London Stansted Airport has lounges that you can enter with a Priority Pass Membership. I wrote a full guide in this article.

Priority Pass is the largest airport lounge network in the world. You can signup here for a 30% discount.

Membership starts at £48. Standard Plus Membership costs £183 and comes with 10 free lounge visits. So each visit costs £18.30.

I’m a massive fan of Priority Pass. It’s changed the way I view airports. Often, the airport lounge is my favourite part of the trip.

The program isn’t perfect, and it’s important to be aware of it’s drawbacks. In particular, if the lounge is full, then you might be refused entry. However, you can pre-book a timeslot with Priority Pass. It costs £6 and guarantees your entry.
