Lounge At Palma Airport Review. Mallorca

I’ve never been to a lounge like the Sala VIP!

Normally leisure destinations like Mallorca will have a tiny airport lounge or no lounge at all. Not the Sala VIP — this Mallorca airport lounge is anything but tiny!

This lounge at Palma airport is massive — it felt like an aircraft hangar, that big. It was also Sunday at 9pm in December, so nobody was there.

There was self-service beer, wine and spirits, all included.

There was also a decent buffet spread with sandwiches, snacks, pastries, desserts and some hot dishes.

Best part? A Priority Pass card gets you straight in. Priority Pass covers more lounges worldwide than any other network. Sign up here for a 30% discount.

Sala VIP Mediterraneo isn't hiding at some far corner of the terminal, either. Five minutes past security, next door to McDonald's, and there it is — a lounge shaped like an aircraft hangar with two buffet counters doing the heavy lifting. If you're searching for a lounge at Palma airport, this is the big one.

Worth knowing before you go: Priority Pass told me there are a few other lounges in the terminal, also run by Sala VIP. This review covers the one in section A. The seating alone tells you how seriously they've taken the space — proper tables and chairs, low lounge seating with power outlets and red leather seats dotted about. I turned up on a Sunday night in December, so it was practically empty. A weekday afternoon would feel very different.

The self-service bar pours beer, wine and spirits, and I worked my way through a German beer and an IPA (the IPA won). Food-wise, don't expect a sit-down meal — by 9pm the hot dishes had clearly been sitting a while. Chips, olives, crackers and a veg sandwich did the job when I was tired and hungry, though. Honest verdict: snack, not supper.

If lounge access like this is on your radar, it's worth a look at my Recommended Resources page, where I've got a 30% discount on Priority Pass membership alongside the other deals I actually use for travelling.

What I Liked

  • Large lounge!
  • Complimentary alcohol
  • Decent buffet spread

What could be Improved

  • Not many hot dishes

The Entry Requirements

I got into Sala VIP Mediterraneo with my Priority Pass card.

I've got a deal with Priority Pass that knocks 30% off membership. Already know the offer? Skip ahead.

The cheapest membership costs $69. Standard Plus will set you back $263 and gets you 10 free lounge visits — so each visit works out at $26.30. Unlimited membership costs $422 and gets you into over 1,700 lounges worldwide.

For me, this lounge at Palma airport is a money saver. A restaurant meal plus a couple of drinks in most airport terminals will easily clear $50 before you've even finished eating. Here, you get a full buffet and an open bar included.

Priority Pass isn't perfect — lounges can fill up, and a big space like this one can still turn people away on a busy day. I'd rather pay $7 to pre-book a timeslot than risk getting turned away at the door.

Priority Pass told me there are a few other lounges in the terminal, also run by Sala VIP. Every Palma de Mallorca airport lounge under their banner works off the same membership. This review covers the one in section A; the other two are yours to explore on the same Priority Pass.

One thing worth knowing: this isn't an airline club — no status or business-class ticket needed, just the Priority Pass card.

That's the real difference between an executive lounge at Palma airport and a Priority Pass one like this: no status, no premium fare required, just the membership.

The Location

There are three different Priority Pass Mallorca airport lounges. All managed by Sala VIP. This review is for the

Sala VIP Mediterraneo in section A.

It was a 5-minute walk after security, next to McDonald's — easy to miss for such a well-known Palma Mallorca airport lounge.

The lounge sits in Palma de Mallorca Airport, section A of the terminal. Handy if your flight departs from that side of the building.

Once through security, it's a straight walk to the entrance. Follow the signs and you're there in 5 minutes flat, no detours or lifts to worry about.

With the same Priority Pass, the other two Sala VIP lounges elsewhere in the terminal are also fair game. Worth knowing if section A gets busy or you fancy comparing notes on the buffet.

Hire a Car in Mallorca

Hiring a car in Palma is dead easy. You can collect straight from Palma airport or from a rental desk in the city centre, depending on what suits your trip.

I use Local Rent to compare prices before booking. They pull together local rental companies alongside the big international names, which tends to beat booking direct.

Pros: freedom to explore Mallorca beyond the resort strip and it's the easiest way to reach beaches and towns off the main bus routes. Cons: parking in central Palma can be a nightmare, and August traffic on the island's main roads gets properly clogged. If you're travelling at peak times, sort this in advance.

The Best Activities in Mallorca

Palma Cathedral and the Old Town

You don't need to book anything to fall for Palma. The Cathedral, La Seu, sits right on the seafront and dominates the skyline the second you step outside — free to admire from every angle, even if you don't go in. I'd just wander the old town streets around it. Narrow lanes, hidden courtyards, and you'll stumble on a decent tapas spot without even trying.

Sunset Sailing with Open Bar

Book your spot here for a 4-hour sail from $110. It's rated 4.68* from 241 reviews. Light snacks and an open bar on the water — this is the splash-out pick, but watching Palma from the sea at sunset is worth the extra spend.

3 Hour E-Bike Tour in Palma

You can book here for $81. Rated 4.88* from 448 reviews — the best-reviewed pick on this list. Three hours on an e-bike means you cover far more ground than walking, and the electric assist takes the sting out of any hills.

Palma Easy Bike Tour (Small Groups)

Buy tickets here for $57. It's rated 4.79* from 280 reviews. Smaller groups and an easier pace than the e-bike option, so it's the better call if you'd rather cruise than cover distance — just less ground covered for your money.

The Lounge

This Palma de Mallorca airport VIP lounge is a large rectangle shape, with lots and lots of seating

  • Tables and chairs
  • Low style lounge seating with power outlets
  • Red leather seats and low tables

There were two buffet counters in the middle of this Palma de Mallorca airport lounge, where everything was served from.

Two sides of the lounge had windows. But it was nighttime, so no view. The view of the runway was obstructed, by some building. In the daytime, there would be lots of natural light.

The Food

There were two self-service buffet counters in this Mallorca airport lounge. The following dishes were there

  • Snacks. Potato chips, olives, raisins and crackers
  • Sandwiches
  • Muffins, donuts and biscuits
  • Pastries
  • Toast
  • Cereal
  • Hot dishes like Spanish omelette

To be honest, the food was more of a snack than a full meal. It was 9pm and the food had been made many hours earlier. Despite that, the food wasn’t bad.

I had some potato chips, olives, crackers and a vegetarian sandwich. It was edible. Given that I was tired and hungry, that was good enough for me!

The Drinks

Tea and coffee were served from a machine. It was late in the evening, so I didn’t fancy a hot drink.

There was also self-service alcohol. Beer, wine and spirits. I had two beers. One German beer and one IPA. I enjoyed the IPA more.

But fair play. The drinks selection covered a lot of ground.

My Take

I've never seen a lounge at Palma airport quite like this one. Sala VIP Mediterraneo felt more like an aircraft hangar than a departure lounge, and that scale was the standout. Proper seating, power outlets throughout, a full self-service bar — for a leisure destination that usually skimps on lounges, this Palma de Mallorca airport VIP lounge goes big.

The food is where I'd manage expectations. By 9pm the hot dishes had been sitting a while, so it was snack territory rather than a proper meal. Chips, olives, crackers, a veg sandwich did the trick when I was hungry, but nobody's raving about the buffet. The drinks made up for it, mind: a decent pour of beer, wine and spirits, and the IPA won me over.

If you're flying out of section A with Priority Pass in hand, this is the one to head for — just eat beforehand if you want more than a snack.

Flying out of the UK before your next Mallorca trip? I've also covered Gatwick's Priority Pass lounges, so you know what's waiting on that side too.
