Well that was good! I feared the worst as I entered the Plaza Premium Budapest. It’s pretty small.
But no. I should have had faith! This lounge is really good. There’s high quality food, a full bar, decent tea/coffee and lots of natural light. Everything me and my family needed for a couple of hours!
This review is for the Plaza Premium Lounge in the non-Schengen area. Budapest Airport. So if your destination is outside of the EU, you can use this lounge.
It’s a small lounge done right. I entered the Plaza Premium Budapest with my Priority Pass Membership. The alternate is to buy access directly from Plaza Premium. Both are great value options.
The lounge is a great place to chill for an hour or two. Before your flight.

Plaza Premium operate over 250 airport lounges worldwide. They’re very highly regarded. I’ve personally had very good experiences.
I reviewed the Plaza Premium Orlando Airport. One of the best airport lounges in the US. With floor to ceiling windows, stunning architecture and awesome food.
For the Plaza Premium Budapest. You can buy access from the Plaza Premium Website. The price is €37.80 for one visit. Good value for unlimited food, unlimited alcohol and your own personal space. A half decent glass of wine costs €12 in the terminal building.
I got access through my Priority Pass membership. Priority Pass is a membership scheme to access over 1,600 airport lounges worldwide.
You can signup here for a 30% discount. Standard Plus membership is €231. You get 10 free lounge visits per year. So each visit costs €23.10. This is not a publicly available offer. Thanks once again to Priority Pass for their generosity.
I’ve been a member of Priority Pass for over a decade. It’s been a great investment for me. Each lounge visit is worth around €70 to me. When you factor in meals, alcohol, tea/coffee and high quality wi-fi.
Personally, I love being able to avoid the madness of the terminal building. Airport terminals normally represent some sort of apocalyptic nightmare! With bright lights, long lines, crowded spaces and lack of personal space.
The lounge is located in terminal 2B. Non-Schengen zone. If your destination is outside of the European Union, then you can use this lounge.
The Schengen zone is a borderless area within the European Union. Once you enter the Schengen zone, you can travel freely to any other country within the zone. Without border checks. Most EU countries are within the Schengen zone.
Once you go through security at Budapest Airport, there’s another passport check. This passport check is to exit the Schengen Zone. Once you go through the passport check, you get to the Plaza Premium Lounge. Make sure you factor the extra passport check into your timings.
If you’re taking a flight within the Schengen zone, then can have access a different Plaza Premium Lounge. The other Plaza Premium Lounge is inside the Schengen zone.
The Plaza Premium Budapest is small but mighty. It’s a small rectangular room split into three zones.
The lounge has runway views to one side of the lounge. I took some nice shots of airplanes outside the lounge. Lots of natural light came into the lounge, from the windows.
While the lounge is small, it has everything you need. Hot food, complimentary drinks, free Wi-Fi and a comfortable place to sit.
There were four of five staff working in the lounge. Which is pretty good, given the lounge was small. They made food and picked up rubbish in a timely manner.
All of the food was served from the buffet counter. It wasn’t very big, but lots of food was on offer. The food was regularly replenished.
I was there for a couple of hours. I caught the end of the breakfast service. And the start of the lunch service.
The following items were available during breakfast
At lunch, they swapped over the hot dishes. They bought in soup, veggie curry, chicken curry and rice.
I tried the food during the breakfast service. I had potatoes, herbed mushrooms, tortilla chips and mini pretzels.
The potatoes were good. The mushrooms were really nice too. The mushrooms were herbed and cooked with creamy sauce. The snacks were perfectly fine too.
The lounge had an excellent drinks selection.
They had a swanky looking Nespresso machine and a nice range of teas.
During my trip, I saw that Nespresso machines are very popular in Budapest. I was super impressed! Sadly, I need to avoid coffee these days. But I did used to enjoy a Nespresso. In my younger days!
The lounge had a full bar with self pour drinks. Beer, wine and premium spirits were available.
I started off with an English breakfast tea with milk. I always do! It was nice.
I then had a can of Heineken from a nice glass.
The Plaza Premium Lounge Budapest surprised and impressed! It’s really small. It looks like you can’t fit much in it.
But it had everything I needed! Fresh and hot food, complimentary alcohol, nice tea and coffee, runway views and free WiFi.
You’ll get fed at the lounge. You can get a drink if you wish. It’s also a place to chill or work.
I flew in Lufthansa Business Class. From London to Frankfurt. Review here. I got a great price for the flight. I also appreciated the complimentary alcohol and extra baggage allowance. Sadly, the food wasn’t good!
