Air Canada Frankfurt Airport Lounge. My review

The Air Canada lounge is decent. It’s located in Frankfurt Airport Terminal 1. It has natural light, hot food and self pour alcohol. The lounge also has a really cool model of an Air Canada plane.

It’s not the height of luxury, but it’s a decent place to chill before your flight. I could happily spend 2 to 3 hours in this lounge. I really loved the quality of their tea and the modern design!

It’s in the non Schengen part of terminal 1. Near to the Lufthansa lounges.

I accessed the lounge as I was flying in Business Class to London with Lufthansa.

This review has lots of photos. So you’ll know exactly what to expect when you visit. Each photo can be clicked to open out the full slideshow.

What I Liked

  • Sweeping runway views
  • Complimentary alcohol, including Prosecco
  • High quality tea
  • Model Air Canada plane

What Could Be Improved

  • The food wasn’t great

The Entry Requirements

Air Canada is a member of Star Alliance. If you’re flying in business class with a Star Alliance airline, then you get access.

If you have status with a Star Alliance airline, then you can also get in.

The non-Schengen part of Frankfurt Terminal 1 also has a number of Lufthansa lounges. I’ve previously reviewed the Lufthansa Business Class Lounge. That lounge had a large alcohol selection and tasty hot food. Although the design isn’t as nice as the Air Canada Lounge.

If you have access to the Air Canada Frankfurt Airport Lounge, you’ll also have access to the Lufthansa Lounge. You could try both lounges if you wanted to!

Lounge Access with Priority Pass

If you don’t have access to the Air Canada Lounge, then Priority Pass is another option. It’s the largest independent lounge network in the world. They have 4 lounges in Frankfurt Airport and over 1,700 lounges worldwide.

The program isn’t perfect and definitely has its drawbacks:

  • Membership isn’t expensive and lounges get busy
  • If the lounge is full, you might be refused entry. However, you can pay €7 to Priority Pass and pre-book a timeslot. This will guarantee entry to the lounge
  • Priority Pass is a mass market product. Don’t expect bottomless champagne. It’s not Emirates First Class!
  • The lounges at smaller airports are not as good as the lounges at bigger airports

That being said, I’m personally a fan of Priority Pass. It’s changed the way I view airport terminals. I used to HATE airport terminals, with overpriced food and no space. Lounge access with Priority Pass has changed all that. Getting my own personal space and complimentary alcohol is a great way to start any holiday.

You can signup to Priority Pass at the link below for a 30% discount. Membership starts at €59. Standard Plus Membership costs €231 and comes with 10 free lounge visits. So each €23.10. Great value for unlimited food, unlimited alcohol and your own personal space.

The below video has a guide to Priority Pass on my Youtube channel.

The Location

The Air Canada Frankfurt Airport Lounge is in the non-Schengen part of Terminal 1.

The Schengen Zone is made up of European Union countries. Members of the zone don’t have an internal borders. There are no border controls between different countries in the Schengen Zone.

The members include most countries in the European Union (including France and Germany). Ireland is one notable exception. A country in the EU, but not part of the Schengen Zone.

The non-Schengen part of Terminal 1 will fly you to countries outside the Schengen zone.

The Lounge

The Air Canada Frankfurt Airport Lounge is mid sized. There’s a buffet counter on one side. There’s also floor to ceiling windows, overlooking the runway.

It was a glorious morning in Frankfurt, and the lounge was bathed in natural light. There were some lovely runway views.

There were different types of seating in the lounge:
  • Low lounge seats
  • Restaurant style tables and chairs
  • Large shared tables
  • Day beds to sleep in

The day beds were pretty nice. Each one was in a private booth. With a small TV and a table. I was super tired. However, I didn’t want to sleep as I was scared I’d miss my flight. I also had to do this review!

There was a lovely model Air Canada plane as you enter the lounge. I think this is a feature in all of their lounges. I reviewed the Air Canada Lounge in London Heathrow. That lounge also had a model Air Canada airplane.

There was a rectangle room in the centre of the lounge. It had a nice piece of artwork in the middle of it.

I thought the lounge had a lovely and modern design.

The lounge wasn’t busy when I was there. The Lufthansa Lounges are a lot busier! Maybe people don’t know they can also use the Air Canada Lounge.

The Food

There was a small buffet counter on one side of the lounge. It has the following options.

  • Bacon
  • Scrambled eggs
  • Sandwiches
  • Pretzels
  • Pancakes
  • Desserts
  • Cold Cuts

I was very hungry when I arrived. On the preceding flight, I chose to skip breakfast and sleep longer. Big mistake!

The food wasn’t great. I had some pancakes. They were hard and lacking taste. I also had a pretzel.

I made sure to eat something as I was so hungry. But I didn’t enjoy the food!

The Drinks

The Air Canada Frankfurt Airport Lounge has self pour alcohol on the buffet counter. There was a wide variety of alcohol. This included beer on tap, wine, prosecco and spirits.

Coffee was served from a machine. I didn’t try it.

There was a tea selection from Eilles. I think it’s a German brand. The Lufthansa lounges also served the same brand.

I had an English breakfast tea. It was very good. I could feel myself perk up as I drank it!

By this point, I’d been travelling for the 20 hours straight. Since I left my hotel in Orlando to drive to the airport. I was basically high off my own tiredness at this point!

It was good to have a decent cup of tea. I tried a green tea from Eilles. Also fantastic!

My Take on the Air Canada Lounge

The Air Canada Frankfurt Airport Lounge is a good option in Frankfurt Terminal 1. If you’re flying with Air Canada, the gates are close by.

It’s also an option, if you get sick of the Lufthansa Lounges! I find the Lufthansa lounges to be uninspiring.

The Air Canada Lounge has hot food, complimentary alcohol and lots of natural light. On the down side, my meal wasn't good.

I have also reviewed the British Airways lounge in Heathrow Terminal 5. It was an impressive lounge. With nice food and a lovely design.

Wow, this Air Canada lounge is such a great place to chill! I love the feeling of having natural light, hot food, and self pour alcohol. It's not the height of luxury, but it's a decent place to "Drift Boss" your way through 2 to 3 hours before a flight.
