I flew in Iberia Business Class from Madrid to Los Angeles. The flight was good. Possibly even very good!
Iberia Business Class cabins have a staggered layout. With four seats across each row. Every seat has aisle access. Every seat reclines to a flat bed. The seat was good, although it did lack privacy.
The Food was decent. The drinks service was excellent. They served Johnnie Walker Blue Label Whisky. Which is a super premium option.
Iberia is one of the best value airlines to fly from Europe to the US. I used air miles to book my flight (British Airways Avios) and got a great deal. I basically paid less than an economy flight would cost! I provide full details in the booking section.
I enjoyed my flight and wouldn’t hesitate to fly them again.
This article is a detailed guide. You’ll know exactly what to expect when you fly in Iberia Business Class:
I took loads of photos. Each photo can be clicked to open out the full slideshow.
I have uploaded a video review of Iberia Business Class on my Youtube channel. Shown below - enjoy!
I got a spectacular deal by using Air Miles.
I used 85,000 British Airways Avios (Air Miles) and paid $620 in taxes to book return flights for two people. Iberia Business Class, from Madrid to Los Angeles.
I used a two for one voucher, so I used half the number of Avios. Normally, 85,000 Avios are needed for one person. But with the voucher, I used 85,000 Avios for two people. You can get a two for one voucher, if you hold a British Airways Credit Card. They have credit cards in the US, the UK, Canada and other locations.
You can earn Avios by flying with a Oneworld airline or by spending on your credit card. You can also buy British Airways Avios from here. The cost is about 1¢ per British Airways Avios.
So you could buy 85,000 Avios for $850. When you add in $620 of taxes, the total cost of the two business class flights is $1,470. Which is crazy good value for two business class flights from Europe to the US West Coast.
The cash rate for the same two business class flights was $11,000.
Frankly $1,470 would be lucky to get you two economy flights from Madrid to Los Angeles!
If you want to use cash to book your Iberia business class flight, I strongly suggest that you go to this page. Which is Iberia’s low fare finder. It shows you the lowest price for each destination.
And what about Iberia First Class? Iberia first class doesn’t exist! They only have a business class cabin. This is common with a lot of airlines. Virgin Atlantic Business Class is another example.
Iberia is owned by IAG. They also own British Airways. The Iberia Business Class Cabin is much smaller than the British Airways cabins. Probably reflecting London’s status as a financial and global hub. The demand for business class flights from London is much higher, compared to Madrid.
My review of British Airways Business Class is here. That flight was great, but it costs more to fly with British Airways, compared to Iberia!
In Iberia Business Class, there were five rows of four seats. So 20 seats in the cabin.
There were four lavatories for business passengers. And four cabin crew. Which is a really good ratio. It created an intimate feeling in the cabin.
I liked the seat while flying Business Class on Iberia. It had everything that I needed.
I was sat in seat 1J on the 1st row.
Iberia have a staggered layout in their business class. When you’re sleeping, your feet go in a cubby hole next to the seat in front.
The cubby hole felt quite spacious. Sometimes they’re super small!
The seat reclines to a fully flat bed. Every seat has aisle access. All good stuff!
The seat definitely lack privacy. There is no privacy door or privacy screen. I got to eyeball the cab crew, every time they came by!
I have reviewed Delta One Suites here. That’s the name of their international business class. They have a privacy door. Which is definitely something I like. Sadly their food was uneatable tosh!
Iberia have a mid sized TV at the front of the seat. The TV can be used from take-off to landing.
The Iberia seat reclines to a fully flat bed.
About half way through my 11 hour flight. I made up the bed.
There was a duvet and a pillow provided. Which were decent. Not luxurious, but good enough!
I lay in bed for about 3.5 hours, to get some rest. I couldn’t get to sleep properly, as it was a day flight. I rarely get sleep on an airline at any time, let alone a day flight.
On this occasion, I was absolutely exhausted. I’d woken up at 4am to get to Madrid Airport. Yikes! But even then, I wasn’t able to sleep. It’s just how I am!
Although I didn’t get any deep sleep, I did enjoy the rest. It set me up for the rest of the day. I touched down in Los Angeles at 4pm, and didn’t feel like utter crap!
I have to say this again. Flat beds are an absolute game changer, when it comes to flying. To arrive at my destination and not feel like I’ve been hit by a train is worth its weight in Gold. Iberia is also one of the cheapest ways to cross the Atlantic.
If you fly Business Class on Iberia, then you can be sure of getting some rest!
Business Class on Iberia had good entertainment options.
There was a TV screen at the front of the seat. It was mid-sized. Most importantly, it was really good. The screen was crisp.
There were a bunch of English Options to watch. I was tired, and I didn’t fancy watching TV. I did however spend 1 minute pressing buttons randomly on the TV. As you can see in the below video!
The meal service on Iberia was better than most other business class airlines I’ve flown. So kudos to them.
The 1st meal had a choice of
There was a dessert choice of the following:
I had pre ordered a veggie meal. My starter was an excellent cold salad. With courgettes, fennel, pumpkin seeds and roast peppers.
My main dish was a veg paella. Which was better than it looked (view the slideshow above)! Nicely spiced. My dessert was a small fruit salad.
Listen. I get it! My meal will appal meat eaters. Especially compared to the veal steak.
I often get asked why stopped eating meat and went vegetarian. A few years ago, I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease after I lost a lot of weight. Which is a stomach condition. However, I never trusted this diagnosis.
I asked for a diet plan. The NHS doctors in the UK said no. They gave me medicines instead. The medicines made me fat and made me feel like crap!
I went back to the doctor and said that the medicines don’t work. I asked to stop taking the medicines and asked for a diet plan. The doctor said he would give me stronger medicines instead! I said thanks but no thanks. I decided to stop taking the medicines.
So I went home and did research on Google, to find the right diet. I chose to do an alkaline diet. To eat more veggies. And avoid meat, alcohol and coffee (i.e. the fun stuff)!
I felt a lot better, once I moved to a veggie diet. My skin cleared up. My weight also stabilised.
Some years later, I saw another doctor. They did some tests on my stomach and found no issues. No evidence of Crohn’s!
We spoke at length. I had broken my leg a few years earlier and taken some very strong painkillers. The doctor said that this caused me to have stomach ulcers. Which the NHS doctors mistook for Crohn’s.
If I had listened to the NHS doctors, I would be taking stronger and stronger medicines for no reason. Just making my body dependent on these drugs. So long story short. I’m not going back to eating meat!
Anyway, back to the Iberia flight. There was a 2nd meal service. A choice of octopus pie or Spanish omelette.
My veg meal was some sort of cold salad. With carrots, artichoke, lettuce and a side sauce. There was also a fruit salad on the side. With melon and pineapple.
The 2nd meal was fine. Perfectly edible. However, not exactly a full meal,
Overall, my veg meal was definitely inferior to the normal menu. This is nearly always the case. I’m used to it now!
In the galley, there were some snacks that you could raid during the flight. There were potato chips, chocolates, olives and other sorts of processed delights!
I’ve had considerably worse vegetation food on other business class flights. Like when I flew with Lufthansa! I assume Lufthansa think that vegetarians just choose to starve themselves!
Business Class on Iberia had an impressive drinks service.
The service started on a slight sour note. They offered cava before take-off. Not champagne. I declined and had some water.
I’m not a big drinker. I’m not going to waste a headache on cava! It turned out to be a smart choice, for reasons I explain further down.
There was a nice variety of drinks available. With beers, wine and spirits.
To my shock they had Johnny Walker Blue Label on offer. A super premium scotch whisky. It costs $250 per bottle. I had to do a double take when I saw it.
I had a couple of glasses of Johnnie Walker Whisky. It was really nice. Super smooth. After a couple of glasses, that was me done for the alcohol!
I had a chamomile tea after dinner. Which was nice.
After my sleep, I had 3 cups of herbal tea. Two mint and one chamomile. It was really refreshing.
I also had a cup of coffee before landing. It wasn’t great. But i needed to wake up.
The crew were good. Four crew members for 20 passengers. A pretty good ratio if you ask me
The crew were all lovely. And happy to help.
There was a pretty generic amenity kit. With hand cream, toothbrush, lip balm, eye mask and ear plugs. The bag was a $5 bag you would find in CVS (or Boots in the UK!).
Perfectly average. In the 1980s, they gave you this kit in economy class!
I flew in Etihad Business Class from London to Abu Dhabi on the A380. Review here. The Amenity Kit bag was lovely. A stunning Acqua Di Parma leather bag.
I like business class on Iberia. The seat reclines to a flat bed. Every seat has aisle access. The drinks are good. The food and the crew were nice.
Iberia is also one of the best value ways to cross the Atlantic. When you consider this, then I think their service is super impressive. I wouldn’t hesitate to fly them again.
I also flew in Air France Business Class, from Paris to Guangzhou China. 11 hours of happiness. With nice champagne, good food and French flair.
