Mumbai is a massive metropolis. It’s also not short of luxury hotels. In my view, very best hotel is the St Regis. Better than the Taj. Better than the Four Seasons. I had a fantastic stay - everything was perfect!
I was upgraded to a beautiful 1 bed suite. Due to my Marriott Platinum status. The hotel has stunning rooms, excellent food and amazing views of the Arabia sea. If you can stay here, I definitely recommend it.
The Mumbai St Regis is a massive and beautiful hotel. As such, I’ve written a massive and beautiful review! I took lots of photos, which can be viewed in the slideshow. Just click on any photo.
I booked the hotel for 9,500 inr ($127), including breakfast. This was a fabulous deal. I was travelling during the off season.
India is significantly cheaper than the west. When it comes to hotels, you have two choices. Book the same hotels as you normally do, but save lots of money. Alternatively, spend the same money as normal, and book somewhere amazing. My strong advice is to book somewhere amazing. Life is worth living!
Mumbai is a great place for luxury hotels. You can stay at international 5* hotels, for $100/night.
The Mumbai St Regis hotel has an excellent location in South Mumbai. South Mumbai is the original city, before it spread north. South Mumbai has the most expensive real estate, the best restaurants and the best tourist attractions. The Gateway of India and Marine Drive are popular destinations.
The Mumbai St Regis is 18km from the airport. Mumbai is famous for its traffic. This journey could take 30 minutes at night. It could take 3 hours during rush hour.
If you fly through Mumbai Airport, there are airport lounges to visit. You can get access to the Loyalty Lounge T2 with a Priority Pass. It’s an interesting lounge! The lounge has bright lights, making it feel like a prison canteen! The beer is also watered down! However, the food was terrific.
If you’re travelling in Business Class, then you can use the Business Lounge in Mumbai T2. Review here. That lounge is really nice. It’s a lovely bright lounge with a high quality buffet.
The Mumbai St Regis Hotel is truly luxury. Everything is top notch. It’s one of the best hotels I’ve stayed at. It has the following facilities:
I don’t normally mention the check-in, during hotel reviews. I don’t think that most readers care. I made an exception for the Mumbai St Regis Hotel. The 9th floor lobby is the most beautiful lobby I’ve been to.
You go to the 9th floor, when you check in. You also go through the lobby, every time you leave the hotel. Even more importantly, there’s a bar!
To call it a lobby doesn’t do it justice. It’s more like a grand French ballroom, with a giant staircase in the centre. There’s fine art, a grand piano, gorgeous seating and a library. The design of the 9th floor is truly stunning. I took many photos of the lobby, the artwork and the seating areas. Just look at the slideshow above.
I am a Marriott Platinum. The elite benefits at the Mumbai St Regis Hotel were fantastic. I got the following:
This is pretty good going. Most hotels aren’t as generous.
In theory, Marriott Platinums only get a continental breakfast. This is strictly enforced in the US. Outside the US, you nearly always get the full breakfast.
I booked the lowest category of room at the Mumbai St Regis Hotel. I was upgraded to a 1 bed suite, with sea view. This was a pretty major upgrade! My suite was at 3201 - one of the highest floors available.
The suite had the following features:
I was staying by myself. Having 2 bathrooms was rather unnecessary!
The décor of the suite was very nice. It’s clear they spent a lot of money on the rooms. Most 5* hotels don’t spend money on the rooms. They have a beautiful lobby to impress as you enter. But then they save money on the room décor. I appreciate a hotel that invests in high quality room décor.
I took loads of photos of the suite. These can be seen in the slideshow above.
The bedroom had a large king bed, en-suite bathroom, TV and desk. I’ve uploaded a bunch of photos in the above slideshow.
The food at the Mumbai St Regis Hotel was spectacular! I ate at the restaurant on the 37th floor. It had sweeping views of the Arabian sea.
For dinner, I had a broccoli and kale burger with sweet potato fries. It took 30 minutes to make. The meal was fantastic. It came with guacamole that was bursting with flavour, and the sweet potato fries had been made fresh. The burger cost $9.32!
For lunch, I ordered the Roast Chicken. It was very good and presented beautifully
The Breakfast was also served in the restaurant on the 37th floor. The menu had Indian and Western items. I’ve uploaded the menu in the above slideshow.
I had eggs benedict and pancakes. Both tasted decent, but not spectacular. The pancakes were served with syrup, but nothing else. I would’ve liked some fruit compote or bananas. The eggs benedict were good – the yolk was runny!
I had an orange juice and americano coffee with my meal. The juice was fantastic – the oranges were lovely and sweet! The coffee was very good too.
St Regis are known for their excellent service. On this occasion, the service was truly exceptional. Everybody greeted me with a friendly welcome. They did everything possible to help me. I assume that the staff have been trained very well. This level of service isn’t common in India. The service was amongst the best I’ve ever had at a hotel.
The Taj Mahal Tower is another iconic hotel in Mumbai. I was lucky enough to stay there. Review here. It’s probably the most famous hotel in Mumbai. Right opposite the Gateway of India. The service at the hotel was pretty good. Nowhere near as good as the St Regis however!
The Radisson Mumbai Goregaon is a hotel in the north part of the city. Near Mumbai exhibition centre and Mumbai Garden city. Review here. The hotel describes itself as 5*, but I think that’s a stretch!
The JW Marriott is another airport hotel in Mumbai. It has a beautiful grand chandelier in the lobby. Review here. The hotel is super stylish and has a really nice swimming pool.
