The space

I visited the Swiss Business Class Lounge Zurich in Satellite Terminal D. The lounge is small and made up of 2 rooms. One room has lounge seating and a magazine rack. The 2nd room is a buffet area with some high seating. The lounge has the following features:

• Obstructed runway views
• Lounge seating

I loved the lounge design. Lots of dark wood tones, exposed brickwork and low set mood lighting. It reminded me of the Plaza Premium Lounge Heathrow T2. In the slideshow above, I’ve uploaded some photos to give you a feel for the lounge décor.

The Swiss business lounge Zurich has windows to the outside, with obstructed runway views. It was still dark when I was there, so I don’t know how bright the lounge gets or how good the runway views are.

The food

I was at the Swiss business lounge Zurich at 7am. There was a small breakfast service out

• Scrambled eggs
• Boiled eggs
• Cereal
• Baked beans
• German style bread and pastries
• Some cakes
• Fruit

I munched on some popcorn and German style bread. It was pretty good, but obviously not a proper meal. I was disappointed with the lack of food options, and wanted to eat a full breakfast. The food selection reminds me of the Eurostar Lounge Gare Du Nord. That lounge is beautiful with tons of alcohol, but hardly any food options!

On a personal note, I spent 10 years working for 2 German banks (Commerzbank and LBBW), so I know a little bit about the Germanic eating habits. They absolutely love their bread, and continental breakfasts are very popular. The breakfast service in this lounge was definitely continental in variety. The drinks

The Swiss business class lounge Zurich has an impressive drinks selection. There was a massive selection of beers, wine and spirits. It was all self service and complimentary. This is better than most lounges in Europe, which only have a small selection of complimentary alcohol. Looking further afield, I drank watered down beer in the Loyalty Lounge, Mumbai T2!

I chose to have a jasmine green tea and an espresso from the machine. Both were fantastic. I was very impressed with the quality of the tea. Many UK lounges stock up on Twinings tea, which I find to be poor quality.

The Lufthansa Business Lounge in Frankfurt also has a fantastic range of alcohol, coffee and tea. So this is an area where I commend the Lufthansa group. The Lufthansa Group includes Swiss Airlines, Austrian Airlines and others.

Conclusion

The Swiss business lounge Zurich is very good. I thought the Lounge design was elegant and the coffee was fantastic. There wasn’t enough hot food for my liking, but the bread was fresh and tasty.
