Welcome to the jungle! It’s rare for me to do a negative review. I’m pretty good at booking flights and hotels. But here we go…
This is an Orlando Airport Lounge Review. For The Delta Sky Club.
It was ridiculous! And not in a good way. Never has the difference between what was paid and what was received been so stark.
Delta charge a premium to use their lounges. Either through a Delta Sky Club Membership, Credit Card Spend or by flying with Delta. Delta are the most profitable airline on the world. You won’t be able to use their lounges with splashing some cash.
And what do you get for your investment? Well not a lot. A 45 minute queue – no digital queue, just a massive bundle. Once inside? A packed lounge, paper plates and internet that didn’t work.
Let’s start with the good. The lounge is better than getting a viral infection. A lot better. They also had a hot buffet and complimentary alcohol.
And then the bad. I had to wait 45 minutes to get into the lounge. Once inside, the lounge was rammed. The lounge décor was dated. The furniture and the carpets looked very old. The internet didn’t work.
If you pay for Delta Sky Club access, I. would seriously consider getting a Priority Pass membership instead. It’s much cheaper - $26.30 per lounge visit. You can signup with this link and get a 30% discount. The Orlando Priority Pass Lounges are better too. The Plaza Premium Lounge (review here) is one of the best lounges in the US. The Club MCO (review here) is a small lounge that has decent food and drinks.
Anyway. I made sure to take loads of photos for my review. Each photo can be clicked to open out the slideshow.
I should point out that I’ve visited other Delta lounges that are better! I’ll cover these lounges later in the article.
This page on my website has some of my favourite travel tools. These are the tools I used to take first class flights and stay at 5* hotels.
Below are the different ways to access the Delta Sky Club
This Orlando Airport Lounge was absolutely packed when I visited. It was at capacity, and I had to wait outside for 45 minutes before getting in. In the blistering heat. No digital queue, no order, just mayhem! Delta thanks you for your custom!
I got access as I was travelling in Business Class with Virgin Atlantic to London (review here).
Generally, international business class lounges are amongst the best you can use. A step above domestic lounges.
From London, I got to use the Virgin Clubhouse (review here). One of the best business class lounges in the world. Indeed the Virgin Clubhouse in New York, JFK (review here) is one of the best lounges in the US. With champagne on tap and restaurant quality food.
Sadly, Virgin sent me to the Delta Lounge in Orlando. They don’t have their own lounge.
The Delta Sky Club is in Orlando Airport Terminal 2. Once you get through security, you need to take the monorail. Once out of the monorail, follow the signs to the Delta Sky Club. A 2 minute walk from the exit of the monorail.
The entire journey took 15 to 20 minutes, once you get through security.
Orlando is famous for its theme parks. The most famous being Disney. Disney is great, but there’s loads of other amazing things to do in Orlando.
Unlike Disney, a lot of these activities won’t break the bank! Given that a 1 day ticket to Disney costs $149.
You can book NBA ticket for the Orlando Magic - tickets start at only $25. This is obviously super popular. And $25 is a great price.
Book tickets to Legoland Windsor here – for $58. The park is highly regarded and well priced.
This Orlando Airport Lounge is pretty big. Around 8,000 square foot. That being said, the lounge wasn’t big enough for the demand! The lounge was split up into different rooms.
Below are the Amenities that Delta promise in this lounge
It’s open from 4.30am to 10pm daily. There was some natural light coming in from one side of the lounge. But the windows weren’t big – not floor to ceiling. There weren’t nice runway views either.
The Delta Sky Club had a variety of seating. Low style lounge seating with low tables, work booths and shared tables.
The decor was functional. Nothing luxury about it. An old grey carpet and some leather furniture. Not that anything was in terrible condition. The design of the lounge was certainly dated.
I didn’t see any kids play area. However, the lounge was so busy, I didn’t want to get out of my seat. Or it would have been occupied by the time I got back!
The service was pretty good. People came by every 15 minutes to clean up.
There were power sockets at nearly every seat.
I wasn’t happy with my stay at the Delta Sky Club Orlando. That being said, I’ve had better experiences with Delta in the past.
The Delta Sky Club in JFK Terminal 4 was pretty good. My review is here. The buffet was really nice. The lounge was large, with windows on both sides. I had to queue to get into that lounge too.
My review of the Delta Sky Club Miami is here. That lounge was a mixed bag – review here. Better than the Orlando Lounge. Much worse than the lounge in New York. The buffet wasn’t too bad and there was free alcohol. However the lounge was super busy.
I reviewed Delta One – which is Delta’s International First Class. That flight was good. The suite had a flat bed and a privacy door.
My review of Delta Domestic First Class was less positive. The seat was comfy and there was an open bar. However the food was bad. Really BAD!
This Orlando Airport Lounge didn’t have proper Wi-Fi.
I got my laptop out to do some work. But the internet was really slow. I did a speed test. The download speed was 0.17 mbps! This is shockingly bad. A $10 hostel in Bali is expected to provide decent internet. There’s no excuse for a premium Delta Sky Club not to have decent internet.
For comparison, I just did a speed test at home. 84.8 mbps download speed. The internet at Delta Sky Club Orlando basically didn’t work.
There was a hot buffet counter in the middle of this Orlando Airport Lounge.
The food was pretty average. The hot dishes were chicken stir fry, cooked vegetables, rice and glazed eggplant. There were also some soups, salad items, cold cuts and sandwiches.
There were some sweet treats. Cookies, marshmallow squares and brownies. It sounds like items from a 10 year olds lunch box!
The food was served on paper plates! I’ll say it again. For those guests that paid $695 for an annual membership, Delta are really sticking it to you!
I had some eggplant and rice. It couldn’t finish it.
Delta serve alcohol from a manned bar. Base level drinks are complimentary. Premium drinks are chargeable.
I didn’t have a drink as I was exhausted.
The lounge has drip coffee, a tea selection and a coffee machine. There were multiple coffee stations throughout the lounge.
I had a cup of drip coffee to prevent me from collapsing. It was pretty good!
The tea selection was by Harney and Sons. I had a green tea, which was pretty nice.
Delta need to up their game with their lounges. Every time I go to their lounges, they’re super busy.
This Orlando Airport Lounge was shockingly bad. Wi-Fi basically didn’t work, the food was average and served on paper plates. The worst thing was that I had to queue up for 45 minutes like cattle, just to get in.
Given that I paid to fly in international business class, this is not impressive at all. If I was paying for a Delta Lounge membership, I would get a Priority Pass Instead. The lounges are better, the membership is cheaper.
